I have 3 dd's, the youngest is just 1 & is alseep just after 6 pm without fail.
DD2 is nearly 4 & always in bed & asleep by 6.30pm.
However dd3 who is 7 is a little madam at bedtime & would quite happily go to bed when we do.
What time do your 7 year olds go to bed & do they stay there & how do you succeed in them staying put??

7.30pm unless she misbehaves if she does then i send her to bed before her sister who goes at 7 so its 6.30!!!!!!!! Doesn't matter what time she goes to bed though shes always up at 7ish if she has a late night she is awful the next day and usually results in bed early and her being in a mood all day...........

We go upstairs at 7/7.30pm for baths, playing up there, stories etc. DS1 who is shortly to be 7 now reads to himself until 8.30. He'd like to stay up longer, but is just awful in the mornings, and gets grumpy if allowed the odd late night, so needs the sleep - even if he thinks he doesn't.

my 7 yo DD goes up for a bath and bed time anywhere between 6.30-7 (depending on how tired I think she is) then its story and always in bed with lights off at 8pm (at the latest). Except when she has Brownies and we dont get in until 8. Then its quick snack and bed, no bath and reading is done before brownies, in bed by 8.30 or else she is miserable and will pick fights with siblings.

As for keeping her there it is a routine now, thankfully but she does sometimes come down with "my eye hurts", "I cant sleep" then I have a mean face on and just check her eye then send her quickly back to bed and if she repeatedly trys it on I threaten to take away something nice like a dance lesson.

well my ds will be 7 in march.he has 2 younger siblings who are 4 and 2.This is there routine(they all foolow it)
5-5:30-t.v. time while I sort dinner for them
5:30-dinnertime.
6-upstairs for bath(shower for 6yr old usually except for hairwashing nites wen he goes in bath)
6:20-out of bath,pyjamas on.
6:30-all have a cup of milk then clean teeth.
6:45-into dd2(2yr olds) room where we read stories.
7pm-lights out for 2yr old and the older ones in their own beds. They 'read' by themselves for 10mins.
7:15-lights out for the older ones.

They are always asleep by 7:30(well 2yr olds asleep by 7:05) I've always been really strict with sleeptimes so they know not to mess about as they get nothing out of it.Very occassionaly one or the other will get up and try things on but i just take them straight back.if they get up again they get a warning that if they get out again such and such will happen.Obviously on the 3rd escape i follow through with wat i said. But I've only had to follow up with something a couple of times with each child and they've learnt. They never get up and if they do its just the once.
If they were to keep re offending-getting up once every night as they thought i wouldnt 'punish' them for that one(the 6yr old tried this once) then i move straight to taking something away

Hi Shagirl
I've got 3 dd's too, 9, 7, & 3. General routine is dinner 5.30,homework 6pm, bath etc 6.30, family time 7pm then at 7.30 my dh & I take turns to put youngest to bed while older ones can read, play in room and then we put one each of older ones so all done by around 8pm. Having said that, I do find that older ones will still read, mess about sometimes and even sneak into each others rooms to go to sleep and especially worse after the holidays but find it settles down as term goes on.

cruisemum1 · 12/01/2007 19:00

At age 7 my dd was in bed at 8:00pm and had to stop reading/quiet activity by 8:25 to be asleep by 8:30pm. Well that was the idea anyway. She has to get up at 7am so she shoudl have been getting around 10hrs 30mins sleep a night. At weekends (or xfactor season) she would have to be in bed by 9pm

shagirl · 12/01/2007 20:20

Thanks every-one for all your replies! They've been v.helpful & make me realise that my dd1 does seem to milk it at bed time! I do need to be firmer but am just so knackered after having put dd2 & 3 to bed.
