If you bought a carrycot for your pram, did it get regular use?

Just wondering wether to buy one for my pram as not sure how much use it will get as might just use the car seat for quick outings and the pram seat for longer outings.

Any help appreciated :-) Thanks

I only got 10 weeks out of mine because ds hated to lie flat but I've still bought one for ds2 arriving I don't like car seats out of the car, and i don't like pram seats even fully reclined babies are so delicate at first i think they need a solid flat base with a comfy mattress. I got one he can sleep in to avoid the Moses basket and get more for my money it extra expense but honestly think its so worth it.

rallytog1 · 28/04/2016 21:48

Used ours lots but only in the lounge as a crib!

A lie flat pram is totally fine - and advice on car seats is 2 hours max between breaks, not 40 mins.

My 4 month old is just moving out of hers into the proper seat. Just to throw something else into the mix, our car seat doesn't come out and clip onto the pram.. So lift herr I. And out whenever we go anywhere. The car seat lasts up to about 4 years old so way cheaper. Used it with her big brother too with no problems..
But I am old fashioned and don,t like the car seats that lift out. Just don't,t trust the, somehow. K

Both of my dc's were in the carry cot until around 5 months. I don't think it is good for their backs to be in a push chair seat which doesn't lie flat when they are tiny. I rarely used the car seat on the pram - only for very short outings.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 28/04/2016 22:08

Yes, it was great as they could lie completely flat. It just clipped to the same frame as the car seat and pushchair so wasn't big and heavy to manoeuvre. Our ds's were big lads but we used it a lot for the first 4 months.

Ours was suitable for overnight sleeping too which was handy.

uhoh2016 · 28/04/2016 22:13

I used mine until he was literally too big for it

Amummyatlast · 29/04/2016 07:07

The carrycot was the only thing she would sleep in for a while, so it got a lot of use that way, and I didn't like to leave her in the car seat, so often transferred her to the carrycot.

Daisyandbabies · 29/04/2016 07:12

I got lots of use, it was winter and a lot warmer and more protective than siting upright, so I used it until my daughter was 9 months x

NicknameUsed · 29/04/2016 07:15

Yes, all the time until DD was too big for it - about 7 months. Small babies should lie flat and I walked a lot with DD in her pram. We also used the top as a carry cot at night time. I could have used it as a push chair, but it was big and bulky so I bought a Maclaren umbrella stroller.

Troika · 29/04/2016 07:20

Loads of use for dd. Use it for naps downstairs, walks daily, when we go out anywhere in the car we move her into carrycot. Also for overnight stays.

Only thing it doesn't get used for is the school run, am only out of the car for a few mins so it is much easier to just plonk the carseat onto the buggy for that.

I still wish I'd got a proper pram for her as it would get lots of use with the walking I do but I already had the buggy from previous dc.

Natsku · 29/04/2016 07:23

Used it daily until she was around 6 months old. Would never get a pram without one as I walk every day. She napped in it too.

eurochick · 29/04/2016 07:24

Yes, we used it quite a bit until she was 6 months. As well as with the pram, we used it for daytime naps.

Bluecarrot · 29/04/2016 07:28

Dd was born huge (11lbs) and outgrew the ( large Jane) carrycot in about 5 weeks! It was second hand otherwise I'd have thought it a compete waste of money!
We have a different pram now and holding off to hear if dc3 is another large baby before deciding to buy the carrycot for it (second hand) Our pram does lie flat but it's not parent facing.

Only1scoop · 29/04/2016 07:29

Literally about twice as a pram. Used it downstairs for naps though when she was tiny.

Gooseysgirl · 29/04/2016 07:50

With DC 1 we used ours until 6 months. My cousin is a paediatric Physio and said not to switch to the seat before 6m unless it fully reclined. DC2 had reflux so he was mostly in the sling. We had the uppababy vista and it was fantastic, DC 1 slept overnight in it lots of times when she was newborn. Not sure how much use we would have got out of it for DC 2 who was winter born and the weather was shocking.

Runningupthathill82 · 29/04/2016 08:00

Barely used the carrycot with either child. But then we're outdoorsy people and I'm always on my feet, so I use a baby carrier for day to day walks (you can't take a pram across a field or over stiles).

With DC2, I use it perhaps even less than I did with DC1, as it's hard to handle a pram and a toddler at the same time.

You also can't easily take a big pram on public transport, and they're bulky to put in the car, so only really suitable for walks directly from the front door, in my experience.

I use the carrycot as a Moses basket downstairs more than anything else. I certainly wouldn't have bought it myself - we were given it, and it hasn't had much use.

Our baby carrier barely got used because of foot and mouth. We couldn't walk round or beautiful countryside and had to stick to the roads, and I never used public transport with DD when she was a baby - we had about 3 buses a day where we lived.

I used it all the time until just over 6 months. I also used the carry cot
In the house for baby to sleep in downstairs as I didn't have a Moses basket as we had a crib. Also when we went away she slept on the carry cot which we had on the floor next to the bed.
We had the oyster and it was worth every penny. Would definitely use one again.
Now I have the mother care orb and the seat is both carry cot and seat.

TiredOfSleep · 29/04/2016 09:51

Loved our carry cot for naps in the garden and instead of a Moses basket with a stand. But DD was Spring baby so might have been different.

hotdog74 · 29/04/2016 14:21

We used ours all the time for day time naps until DD was about 7 months old. It was a really cold winter and the sleeping bag it came with was the warmest thing ever and with the hood up and apron on she was really well protected from cold winds.

andadietcoke · 29/04/2016 14:24

We used ours a lot with the DTs. Especially useful for naps when away from home.

cavedescreux · 30/04/2016 12:59

I bought the bee carrycot and loved it. Have had 2 children and the car seat adaptors have stayed unused in the box!
