ds is 20m and he's been having drier nappies for a while now
he goes into a corner to poo and pulls at his crotch when he's weed.
we've put the potty in the bathroon now so he can see it (we live in a flat)
today he pulled down his pjs and nappy and did a poo on the floor. i cleaned it up and didnt make a fuss.
hes just pulled his nappy off again and stood in the corner to wee.

where do i go from here?
is this normal?

help, im scared

Have you tried sitting him on the potty and saying that is where he is to wee/poo?

I sat DS1 (he was just over 2yrs) on the potty in the lounge (with waterproof mat under!) every now and then, I put a DVD on for him to sit and watch and went from there!

He does sound ready to me good luck!

thank you, he sits on it quite happily, and now he tries to get into the loo when we are in there. i just wasnt planning on trying til he was 2

I think 20 months is old enough to introduce the potty, he obviously has enough awareness to take off his nappy before doing something and seems to not want to wear a soiled nappy, so the potty or loo is the only other workable option really.
Perhaps he doesn't know that you expect him to use the potty every time he pees or poops, so you could try popping him on when you know he is likely to go, like when he wakes up in the morning or after a nap and after a meal or after his bath. And as the other lady said, if he does have an accident, you just explain that it goes in the potty. You sound very patient though and that will pay dividends.
I found with my little boy this was exactly the age when he could get it together to use the potty and he took to it really well. He continued to have pee accidents every so often for the next couple of months then suddenly just clicked.
Mind you he very seldom wears anything on his lower half, gets undressed by himself. We are currently trying to persuade him to leave his trousers on and just pull them down - he seems to think he is wearing a nappy. Get there eventually though.

my daughter started like this at 21 months she kept taking her nappy off and peeing on the floor! She was completly dry in the day within a week, she did it all her self!

same thing happened this morning, sat him on the potty and he just kept getting up. where do you draw the line between ignoring accidents and deciding right he's not learning. i know that it will take a while, i just really want to do right

Do you have a step for the toilet. Try and see if he wants to wee standing at the loo. My ds never liked the potty.

hmm, might try that.

I'm trying to remember what we did when we first introduced the potty. I was doing a bit of reading on Elimination Communication (EC) and followed a lot of the guidelines.
I think we kind of sat him on it and tried to get him to relax, by playing a game, or reading or letting him watch Pingu or something.
He definitely went through phases of strong resistance and the more pressure the worse the resistance.
It's more tricky when they are older, because they are beginning to resist for the sake of it.
Does he have a doll/soft toy that you could put on the potty and do peepee and poop with lavish sound effects. He might like that. Or perhaps he could sit on the potty when you go to the loo.
We haven't tackled the loo yet, but so far our little boy is climbing up on a step and sitting on the closed lid - he doesn't fancy the big hole much. So I intend to build on that, but can't say much more on the topic.
Have you tried just putting him over the loo, maybe he would prefer that to a potty??
I know I said timing before, but it's important to use that to him a chance of getting something by trying the potty at a time when there is a high chance of success, like when he wakes or after a meal.
Best of luck with it.
