DS2 soiling everytime he is wearing his nightime pull ups

DS2 (3.10) has been toilet trained nearly a year (although took longer to master the poo side of things!), but still needs pull-ups for nightime, as he is still nowhere near being dry at night. (DS1 was also quite late with this)
I put a pull-up on him just before he goes to bed, which is removed as soon as I get up to him in the morning, but the problem is that he seems to soil the pull-ups, either shortly after I put them on, or early in the morning.
He has been fine with poos when wearing pants, for months & months, but I guess it's a comfort thing.
The big problem is that DS2 tends to try to remove the pull-up himself, before I get to him, which leads to a terrible mess!
Two mornings running I have had to wash soiled duvets where he has done this & a couple of times it has been all over his carpet, where he has got himself out of bed & taken the pull-up off.
I really don't know what to do about this. He is not ready to go without a pull-up at night yet, I don't think.

Yuk!!!! Have you tried without pull up at night? I never used pull ups on any of my DDs. Think I would prefer a wet bed rather than a soiled one

He's such a big drinker though, bubble! He soaks his pull-ups, that's why I don't think he's ready to go cold turkey!

He's very independant & likes to do things for himself, which is why he takes it upon himself to remove the pull-up before I get to him.

Try putting him in his Thomas pants instead- tell him you have ran out of pull ups and could he use these instead. Tell him it would be a very big boy thing to do and it would be helping you! I forgot to put nappy on child I was nannying spent a very sleepless night as I kept on checking him I found he didnt actually wet until 5am and even then he was only damp.(normally his nappies were sodden!!!) he was a big drinker.

Think he would rather not wear a pull-up, but going by how wet they are in the morning, I'm not confident!

I guess I need to cut right down on the drinks!

Just athought if he was wearing his Thomas pants might make him not want to soil and possibly not wet. We have always had a rule for drinking after tea, have never stopped them, but they can only drink water, this way you know they are drinking because they are thirsty and not unnecessarily! It works a treat and now has spread to when we are out during the day they will only ask for water to drink and so now I know when they are truly thirsty! Obviously now DD1 is older it doesnt apply to her- we found it worked

Thanks, PB, I will try & cut down on the evening drinks & maybe try & tackle nightime training!
