Terry nappies - the art of folding...

Hi
So I've got a pile of terries which I'm planning to use on my newborn (when it arrives!) and I've been shown one style of folding but... My mum keeps harping on about their being different types of folds for boys and girls! So, is there a website somewhere that explains (in an idiot-proof fashion) all the different folds you can use?!
Oh and white wine vinegar, should I be using it as a kind of replacement fabric softener?! Thanks!

Yep www.thenappylady.co.uk is excellent for folds, my favourite is the Jo fold, which is great for both sexes and quite trim.

I found that cos terries are quite bulky and stiff at first, it was easier to practice folding with a muslin (they also make good newborn nappies).

Oh and www.twinkleontheweb.co.uk have a downloadable booklet called "How to Nappy" which has some folds in too.

I agree with kittypants. I reckon the kite fold is best with two nappy pins, one either side, which is good for boys and girls. Terry nappies won't be stiff in you wash them a couple of times before use.

I love origami fold (think it's also known as bat fold)
it's very easy and much nicer on a newborn than kite fold IMO

Yes, origami fold great for a newborn, but wait until you have a four year old still in nappies!Heaven forbid

What's the origami fold?!! Wen to the nappylady website, thanks, and am about to start the nappy folding olympics for me and dp this weekend! Just seen the twinkleontheweb recommendation, although if it's a pdf file my pc will keel over at the work required to open it!!

site here which gives diagrams of different folds
the nappy lady

I used the kite fold when ds was a couple of months old, but used a different one before that and can't remember what it was called.

There are some different folds for boys and girls but I don't think they are used much any more. Easier to do unisex ones.

I use shaped nappies now but used muslins for the first few weeks. I have to agree with MrsWaggsnapps, the Jo fold is brilliant (from Nappy Lady site). You can adjust the size of the finished fold to your LO, can fold loads in advance and stack them, and the eventual shape is very similar to a disposable or shaped nappy.
