Which baby sling/carrier?

I have an 8 week old, he's a big lad. With my first I used a Chicco carrier that straps baby to your chest and I didn't like it at all, she was always kind of leaning uncomfortably.

I'm worried with a sling that I'll find it difficult due to him being such a big lad (and a squirmer). What did you use that worked well? I'd rather hear from mums than someone in a shop just trying to sell their stock Smile

Hello!

We've noticed that this thread is quite old now, and some of the product recommendations are a little out of date. We've spent weeks speaking to parents and testing different baby carriers. Here are our baby carrier reviews.

Hope this helps! Flowers

Beco Gemini here - and i love it. Good for carrying on the front and back, and plain black (I wear a lot of black).

Hurrah! :) In your position, I would look at SSCs (Soft structured carriers) also known as buckle carriers. The decent ones which are actually slings are much more supportive than the chicco type ones. You should definitely find one which is comfy and easy to use but do try a few if you have the chance. Different carriers suit different body types etc.

Woven wraps are lovely, but I do think that you need either an extremely stubborn streak and a lot of patience OR to be shown how to do it in person.

Artandco, the ergo doesn't go round your waist - it sits on your hips.

I have an ergo 360 and would definitely recommend it. My daughter hated the newborn insert though. We used a Hana wrap for her until she was big enough to use it without the insert.

Euro - I know, that's what I meant. Either way it didn't go small enough. I'm a size 6, and when done up smallest the belt just rose up to waist and didn't fit, this was at a sling group, they said the ergo generally doesn't go as small as some other brands, hence the boba worked better

I had the same issue Art - I had a Patapum which was just about small enough on the smallest setting.

It's difficult as if they fit small, then there isn't enough padding for larger waist sizes, hence different carriers fit different people.

"It's a sling thing" website do online hire. I would say close Caboo for first few months then a connecta.

Beco Gemini. So supportive, I can put my 13mo 91st centile DD in it and still feel comfy after an hour. It has a really solid waistband which means all the weight is on your hips, not your shoulders. I find it easy to put on and take off too. It does inward facing, forward facing, hip carry, back carry (haven't tried the hip and back yet).

Also seems to fit lots of size adults - I'm tiny and my friend is much taller and broader but we both have Geminis and love them.

If you've a big 8 week old I think you're almost beyond the Caboo days personally.

I get on well with my tula, though we have used it since DD was 6 mo. I know you can buy an insert for babies but the carrier might still be a bit long for him now ( as in over the head as they tempt to be floppy and fall asleep in them)
