What do you do with old toys that are still in good condition?

And do these even exist??? Mine all seemed to have been trashed in the past.
Having huge clearout after over-indulgent family gives us half of ToysRus.
My children are the youngest in my circle of friends/family so cannot pass on.
Obviously the charity bags keep coming through my door but just wondered what everyone else does.

I freecycle mine...

mousiemousie · 09/01/2007 19:30

I give to friends at work or send to charity shops. Sometimes I sell at CAR BOOT sales. We have loads of stuff in excellent condition to give as dd is an only child and only grandchild!

hotpot · 09/01/2007 21:54

I can't be parped with selling them (too little to warrant any real money)and I'm a busy SAHM of 2 but a huge thank you for your ideas.

The womens refuge one sounded like a really good idea and I like that kind of charity and the freecycle - I am registered with them.

Yes the annoying ones with no off button are the first to be "broken" or disappear in my house

I freecycle too. It's amazing how much stuff I've shifted via freecycle. It pretty much all goes within a few hours. Great!

I think it should be called Freebay.

donate to local gp surgery or hospital, always useful to have toys in their waiting rooms.

DominiConnor · 09/01/2007 21:58

Bigger toys go to local playgroups, else to charity shop.

Posey · 09/01/2007 22:01

What about local baby/toddler groups or the doctor's surgery? (ours has a children's play area separate from the waiting room and they always need toys)
When I was running a baby group I really liked donations of good quality toys.
Or local nurseries or schools nursery, especially the council run/state ones as they aren't as well off. Am just about to donate ds's old mega blocks to local playgroup.

Tillyboo · 09/01/2007 22:10

Sorry if I'm being dim here but what does freecycle mean ? Giving them away for free ?

Heartmum2Jamie · 09/01/2007 23:24

Ours go either to the gp's surgery or, as we spend so much time there, to the hospital. Our local will accept toys that are not plush, where as main children's hospital prefer not to take second hand toys, but they get all our old video's and games and are always so grateful.

I give to charity or once in awhile car boot, then the money I put straight back into new things whatever that may be and is needed for our son. They were his things, so he should get the benefit!

Medea · 13/01/2007 08:18

I've donated them to my GP surgery. And some hospitals accept used toys, as long as they're plastic and not soft toys. But my GP surgery took both kinds of toys. But if a toy looks trashed don't pass it along I'd say.
