Advice wanted on fleece wraps please

Hiya, I'm not new to cloth nappies but am new to shaped 2 part nappies. I got a council incentive pack which included a Tots and a MEOS. Now I've gone a bit nappy crazy and got two very gorgeous fleece Tots wraps from Ebay. I've heard people saying that fleece wraps are great for overnight but I'm a bit unsure of trying it out (since DS co-sleeps!!).

Do they really stay dry in a fleece wrap with a Tots, I would have thought staying in one place (i.e asleep on back) would put pressure on the fleece and let the wee wick through. Do you need to use any special liner? What about using fleece during the day? I figured fleece would be best for the summer as more breathable - is this true? And do fleece wraps need different treatment to the rikki wraps?

Many thanks for your advice

It's a while since I used a Tots with a fleece wrap but IIRC, it didn't leak, was VERY bulky though. If you're worried about leaks put baby on a towel for the first couple of nights till you're sure it's ok. Personally I wouldn't use fleece wraps during the day because of the bulk, but that's just me. And I don't think they need any special treatment, not like wool wraps. hth

I really liked Tots fleece (esp. the rainbow one) and they worked fine at night. For peace of mind it's a good idea to over boost first time out and try boosting between the nappy and the wrap as it stops the nappy leaking at the legs.

The only problem I had with them in the end was wicking at the top front when DS got bigger, so I switched to wool wraps with elastic at the front to stop this.

You will find that fleece wraps need washing after a night's use BUT they can go in any cclothes wash and dry on a radiator in about 15 mins so this is no great hardship.

A couple of friends used them during the day as well (one full time due to skin allergies) and had no problems at all - I think they are great for summer with just a colourful t-shirt on top.

Its never occurred to me to wash my fleece with the normal wash (instead of nappy)

I use fleece day and night (or I did until his teething produced some foul smelling wee... had to stop for a bit, now back in them).

I agree with overboosting to start with - you can gradually cut down as you work out how much is right for you. Tots fleece are actually very slim - I didn't get on very well with them though and prefer bumsnugglers.

Oh - you can't use a poppered vest with them - it presses too much and seeps through. You need to make sure that the babygro isn't too snug too or again it can get a little bit damp.

Thank you, that's really helpful - especially about the vest and towel. I'll try it out tomorrow!

make sure youre wrap is big enough too as that will make it leak.we use a folded terry to boost or 2 x tots fleece topped boosters.
