Travel cot or hotel supplied baby crib?!

Planning on taking ds to the Maldives this summer. He will be 7 months old when we take the trip. We will be staying at a 5 star hotel and I thought I would use the baby crib they provide (after cleaning it with sanitising wipes, and airing the mattress first) and bring my own mattress protector and flat sheets.

I mentioned this to a friend who was horrified at the idea. I am now planning on taking my own travel cot but we have to get a seaplane from the main airport to our island and the baggage allowance is only 23kg per person!!

What would you do?

I'd use the hotel's!

It wouldn't even occur to me not to use it.

I think I'd use the one in the hotel to be honest. The luggage storage on the seaplanes is tiny,. Even though I'd sling one in the car, or even on a normal plane, I don't think I would if there was a sea plane involved.

That said, I'd also check that the hotel and you are talking about the same thing when it comes to a crib. We once turned up to a hotel and they used the american meaning, so DD, who was 9 months old at the time was given a fold out bed! They were able to get hold of the right thing, but that wasn't on an island in the middle of nowhere.

I would use the hotel provided one & their sheets. We've stayed in several hotels with DS both in the UK & abroad & have always used the hotel cot, we just take his grobag. If we're in the UK & in the car I take a sheet & extra mattress but not if there is a plane involved.

Use the hotels cot and sheets, it's a 5 star hotel, not a grimy back street B&B

I might be more precious with a newborn but at 7mths I wouldn't give it a second thought to use the hotels one.

I worry about every little thing and we took our travel cot mattress on holiday and put it in their cot....dd was 15 months

Thanks for the replies - I feel more confidant using the hotel's one now! I will still take my own sheets though, just feel more comfortable doing so (also little one has sensitive skin so I think it's best to have our own sheets with my fabric conditioner and also smelling of home).

slicedfinger - good point, I will double check to be extra certain!

Ah butterfly86 that's what I thought of doing too, but then I got paranoid that it wouldn't fit securely enough in the hotel's crib/ may leave a gap around the edges?

Ours did fit ok maybe there was a tiny gap but nothing to worry about, it was ridiculous what we took with us we even took the monitor with the sensor pad!
