Right i need help.

We are now on the new pilot scheme with our refuse bin only being emtried every 2 weeks. With 2 under 2 both in nappys this is a nightmare

I want to try reusable but dont know where to start. Have been reading up on sites and even more confused. Need some straight forward advice.

I have 2 girls DD1 20mths and DD2 7mths, so want a nappy that could fit both. Potty training soon but will still need nappies for DD1.

Must be able to tumble dry

Cant be complicated due to hubby using.

Dont want lots of different bits to mess around with.

Would like velcor or poppers ones.

What are wraps?

Please help me

Bump for Flame!

PinkTulips · 07/01/2007 16:20

lol, i read this and thought of flame too frizbe

the nappy that springs to mind would be a motherease one size though and a motherease airflow wrap. they have poppers and the nappies would fit both your dd's.

wraps are the waterproof outer covers that stop the nappy leaking

try going to the nappy lady website and filling in a questionairre and they'll give you some personalised advice www.thenappylady.co.uk

Have you looked at the Nappy Lady's site? They give free, impartial advice. You'll get loads of advice on here too

BumGenius are pretty much idiot proof (thinking of your DH ) as they fit like a disposable.

Hanlou007 · 07/01/2007 16:28

I have been on the nappy lady site but the questaire doesnt cover have 2 different ages so gave different size nappies

There should be a bit for filling in about 2 children as I used it when I had my now 18month old.

Hanlou007 · 07/01/2007 16:32

PinkTulips · 07/01/2007 16:34

i used the nappy lady site and i was definitely able to specify stuff like that

also you can email your advisor and ask for more advice, why not try that?

Hanlou007 · 07/01/2007 16:42

Have done it...i had it mixed up with another site

No such thing as a reusable virgin, surely?

PinkTulips · 07/01/2007 16:45

lol, easily done. there's so many of them and when your new to the whole cloth nappy malark they all look the same!

Hanlou007 · 07/01/2007 16:51

Its a big step for me as me and my washing dont see each other much

OP posts:
PinkTulips · 07/01/2007 16:56

that was me before reuseable too. be warned with 2 in cloth you'll probably be running a wash every night... i have to and mine only go through 4/5 apiece a day

The only problem with one-size nappies is that you can be kind of overwhelmed with poppers at first! I know the MotherEase one-size scared the crap out of DH, and he was used to real nappies. Get a couple of different ones to try out - you can get them second-hand from the Nappy Lady's Classified Ads.

The different kinds are:

pre-folds (where you fold up a padded cloth and push it into a waterproof wrap, and put on the wrap - not idiot-proof but very cheap),

shaped or fitted (like Tots Bots - often velcro, can be poppers, ever so easy. NOT one-size, although my DS is wearing the same size at 18 mo that he wore at 6 mo. You need to put a waterproof wrap over them),

one-size (generally shaped but with a plethora of poppers, wrap required),

all in ones (dead easy, usually poppered, no wrap required, quite expensive, can come in one-size),

pocket nappies (these are shaped nappies but the top of the back isn't sewn up, so that you can stuff it with inserts - eg microfibre cloths, proprietary boosters, prefolds). Some pocket nappies are 'all in one' so no wrap is required.

Wraps are waterproof outers, they can be poppered or velcroed (poppers last longer). Generally they aren't one-size, but each size lasts for yonks because they're often loose-fitting. MotherEase are generally accepted to the be the best.

PinkTulips · 07/01/2007 17:15

i know you said no fiddly bits but tbh i think bumbles with nappi nippas would be perfect fo you. cheap, can use the same nappies day or night and on both babies and they don't have the multitude of poppers corrie mentioned to cope with. my dp mastered the nappi nippa very easily and he's useless at most of this stuff. poppers still scare the bejesus outta him though!

Hanlou007 · 07/01/2007 17:19

nappi nippas look scary

robbosmum · 07/01/2007 17:38

Hi,
Ihave a 12 week old and find mio bambino easy to use,, all parts go in the tumble if you wish them to, or dry on the radiator, not sure about the different sizes tho, you can buy a sample set to try

PinkTulips · 07/01/2007 18:20

robbos, BM don't suit all babies. dd has always been in them but they simply didn't work for ds for whatever reason. also they're not on size so wouldn't suit both Hanlou's babies.

btw, i used to tumble dry the wraps but they don't take too well to it over time, better to hang them up to dry, they only take a couple of hours ]

PinkTulips · 07/01/2007 18:22

forgot to add...... nappi nippas are very simple, theyre sipmly aa set of three hooked ends held together with elastic to the hooks grab the material of the nappy and the elastic pull them taut.... surprisingly simple to use, and like i said.... dp proof!

MrsWaggsnapps · 07/01/2007 18:29

Bumbles and nippas = very good suggestion topped with an airflow wrap, they are bombproof.

PS nippas were invented by a man (in South Africa) ergo all men should be able to get the hang of them (obviously )

PinkTulips · 07/01/2007 18:42

should have known! they always remind me of how dp wraps a present.... drag all the paper to one side and drape some sellotape over as many loose end as possible same principle for nippas!

FlamesparrowThePirate · 07/01/2007 20:01

Hiya, I think that bumgenius sound about the best for you too, or rainbow tots with an airflow wrap. I seem to have inadvertently started up doing email nappy advice (its easier to go more in depth via email) if you wanna chat I'm flamesparrow at gmail dot com.

I just want to emphasise that the email stuff I'm doing is advice and not touting for business (even told Trinity last night that she'd be good with bumgenius ). I don't want to incur the wrath of MNHQ

hatwoman · 07/01/2007 20:03

I'm too far past nappy stage to be constructive, but had to compliment you on your excellent thread title. a re-usable virgin

abbottim · 09/01/2007 10:48

For what its worth I would say use Mother ease or popolino.
They are able to grow with your babies as they have popers to make as baggy or tight as you want.
Our son is 10 months and we have had 4 leakers, so not bad really.

We use the stay dry mother ease for nights and put in extra boosting.

Tots bots etc may look cute but when they are wearing clothes you dont see the cuteness anyway, just the bump.

CocoLoco · 09/01/2007 11:33

I used large Fuzzibunz (with the Fuzzi inserts) on DD from 6 months to nearly 3 when she potty trained - they're simple to use and quick to dry, not the cheapest but I would definitely recommend them.
