DS scratching his neck/ears (picture)

My DS is 11 months. Since around the age of 6/7 months he has continuously scratched behind his ears and neck, more often than not when he is beginning to get tired.

He has mild eczema and has been prescribed cream for this, I put the cream on every night, make sure that his nails are cut right down and use scratch mits at night. I don't know what else to do.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'd go back and ask for different cream. I've had eczema in the past and it's horrid when it gets so itchy. Do you use non bio detergent? That makes huge difference with me, can only use persil. Also check if tags on clothes or Velcro on bibs are irritating him, DD gets eczema there if I use Velcro bibs!

Weird question but how often do you bath him? I had awful eczema when I was little, which I've thankfully grown out of.
Soap and bubble bath would make the eczema worse.
Hope this helps Smile

What cream is it?

I have occasional flare-ups and I find that most creams make my excema itch or sting (far worse than no cream). Does he scratch more after the cream has been applied?

Maybe ask GP if he can recommend a different cream to try?

Doesn't look like "mild" eczema, would go back to doc.

Do some internet research on the common eczema triggers, these tend to include non-sensitive detergent and fabric conditioner, non-cotton fabrics, soap, frequent bathing, fragrance, dust, food allergies (40% of children with eczema have a dairy intolerance).

May need hydrocortisone for a short time to clear up. Also ask doc for Hydromol ointment, Dermol 500/600 to use instead of soap/ bath/ shampoo. And Piriton or Ucerax to reduce itching and help sleep. ScratchSleeves are IME the best mitts to use as stay on and silk so not too rough.
