How many words does your 15/16 month old have?

After reading the guest post that the average 16 mo has 55 words I have become a bit concerned about my dd who has only about 15.... The usual dada, mama, nana and also things like ball, more, 'oh no', wow, no, bye bye and a few others like that. She understands lots of other words but doesn't say them. Should I be concerned?

Just to add I have 2 ds, one a teen and a 5yo. The teen was talking before he walked (regressing to grunts now obv...) but 5yo didn't talk til he was nearly 2. I think he just either didn't need to or he was a sponge soaking up and focussing on physical development. His first words were "get down" when I took my eyes off him for a millisecond and he climbed onto the dining table. We had a couple of speech therapy appts because he continued to not talk, but like other posters have said these days, sometimes, I feel bad saying please can you pause for breath just for a minute... He still does have times where he chooses not to say anything (getting rarer) but having 2 ds is really teaching me that you really don't get two the same.
Like STDG' said, keep talking to your Dd and for sure one day she'll regurgitate it all back to you Flowers

My 17 month old has somewhere between 2 and 10 depending on how loosely you define word. He can definitely say again and yes. He can sort of say car and some animal noises and he says nee naw at police cars.

I'm getting a bit worried to be honest.

I remember being really worried about DTs at that age - they could say shoes, mama, dada, dog and their own names for each other. When they were 2 and a bit they suddenly exploded and haven't stopped talking since.

One of mine was highly conversational, the other babbled but said very little clearly.

16 months here and......zero!

He was a very early walker and I really do believe they can't do both at the same time.

I've decided it's fine as long as he has some comprehension as to what we're saying. Language going in is just as important as language going out. So we're working on understanding instructions in the meantime. Lots of "open/ close" etc.

I do expect we'll get a big leap with it over the summer.

Another 16 month old here with zero words Grin. Also not too bothered about it as she's definitely able to get her message across by pointing; bringing things to me (e.g. coat and shoes when she wants to go outside); and LOTS of "urgh-ing" . I am a bit surprised as I talk to her non-stop and we do loads of reading, but there you go - all in good time...
