I keep hearing people say they do playdough with their kids from 18 months plus, do you do this in their high chair or just up at the table and when is it safe and of any benefit to them?

Watching
DS is19 months and haven't tried him yet.
He gets bored easily with drawing/painting so don't think he'll enjoy it yet but could be wrong.

Once they stop trying to eat it is the best age, I think... ;)

We have homemade playdough at the table.

Supervised from 10-11 months is OK

Unsupervised when they won't eat it or put it up their noses

I prefer playdo to painting. I Keep it to one colour though! I tend to roll it out and cut shapes for DD to squish. Just get the pots (or make your own), you can get a nice cutting set from Wilkos, and cheap pastry shape cutters from Tesco etc.

I did it from about 18mo, supervised in a high chair. DS is 22mo now and sill needs to be in a highchair at the table with reasonably close supervision. He loves it though and it's a nice quiet activity that allows me to have a hot, sitting down cup of tea in between making ninky nonks, ducks and elephants
