Disposables for holidays

Well, we've finally bookd a holiday in Cornwall! dh says we won't be able to take cloth nappies to a hotel. I suppose he is right so I'm after advice on the best disposables for a 6 month old weighing in at a rather small 13lb (a lot of feeding problems since day 1). He is very slim in the waist with slightly chubby legs. Any suggestions on what would fit best. I dread night time leaks of which I have had none with cloth. TIA.

Hello, we tried a few and settled on tescos own ones, they are very good, nice stretchy bit at the back, and we've never had a night time leak (and he likes lots of his milk!) Have a lovely holiday too!

Hi Joshjunior!

We've done a holiday with cloth with a 7 mth old. We took our bucket and looked up a local launderette at the place where we were going and did one massive wash and tumble dry while we had lunch - that lasted us 10 days.

However, if you really can't be bothered with that (which is totally understandable ) then there are a few options for nice environmentally friendlier sposies.

Moltex is probably the most popular one. You can get them cheaply from Naturebotts They sell biodegradable nappy sacks too.

Spirit of Nature do Moltex and Bambo Eco (or something like that) - they'll send free samples of both cos they've got slightly different fits. Tushies are another brand which seem to be quite popular but I've not tried it myself.

Moltex are like any mainstream disposable but are coffee coloured instead of white cos they're not chlorine bleached - they also don't have as much of the gel in them - they're mainly paper pulp. No probs with leaks at night with a very heavy wetting 20 mth old.

Have a lovely holiday!

I can also recommend the Moltex ones. They don't smell like Huggies & Pampers either, much nicer.

I don't know what nappies you normally use - if you use wraps (rather than all-in-ones) take them with you. We've been on holiday with dd, and she got a tummy upset, and a disposable just doesn't keep it in like a totsbot and a wrap! If you put a wrap on over the disposable, at least the poo doesn't get to the clothes (have to flush the wrap in the loo and then wash in the sink though).

Zerub has just reminded me - if it's nighttime you're worried about then use disposables during the day and your usual cloth at night. If we're away for a weekend and ds is in Moltex, he's always in his Totsbots at night because they're ultra reliable. You could rinse them in the sink/bath and bag them up until you find a launderette?

Thanks everyone - I think I will try to get a 'sample' nappy from Sainsbury's / Tesco's / Boots etc. and see what fits him best.

I can thoroughly recommend Moltex Eco disposable nappies, they are a great compromise between real nappies and ordinary disposables which are packed full of chemicals and take an age to biodegrade!

Neither of my children have ever had nappy rash or leaked when using these nappies. I would never use anything else now.

my vote for huggies - dd was a tiny babe and they always fitted her brilliantly.
