Bedtime blues

My 3 year old is still in nappies, although I am trying to potty train. My problem is with the bedtime routine. Before I put his nighttime nappy on I ask him whether he wants to go weewee, and he stubbornly always says no! I then tog him up in a boosted terry nappy with plastic pants and jimjams, but after a few minutes he asks to go weewee! I firmly tell him that he should have gone before when asked and that its too late to undress him and if he needs to go he will have to do it in his nappy. There are no tantrums, he quietly gets into bed and is asleep within minutes. He is a good sleeper but there is the inevertable full nappy in the morning. I want to overcome what is becoming a sort of game at bedtime otherwise he will never be out of nappies. Granma says a smacked botty will do the trick but i dont think thats much help. Any ideas out there?

dont make a big deal of it. My 4th wasnt out of nappies till he was turned 3, but he cracked it in no time when he was ready.
Is he clean and dry during the day? no accidents? if yes then I would risk taking it off at night and see how he does.
Layer the bed with sheets and plastic sheets (binbags) towels etc so you only have to take one thing off in the night instead of hunting for sheets!

Thanks. Youve obviously had a lot of experience. No he's still in nappies during the day. Thinking about it, when I sit him on the potty, he will sit there for a long time and do nothing, and then he'll fill his nappy later. If he ever does anything I think it is a reaction to the cold potty rim on his bottom! It's a question of pot luck if you will forgive the pun!

I'd wait till he is more happy about using the pot or loo

Hiya
I have two dds who both "decided" not to wear nappies anymore before they were two- but that said, it was another year before dd1 was confident going to bed AT NIGHT without a nappy. I would focus first on the daytime issue- loads of kids I know took a lot longer to be clean at night. It might be worth waiting till the warmer weather and let your son run around with no nappy on outside- boys love weeing in bushes etc! Also get his dad if he's around to show him how big boys wee standing up- he might think this is an excellent game- i just hope you haven't got carpet in your loo!!
good luck
