How do I stop a disposable leaking in the tummy area?

My DS is 19 months old and he sleeps on his front kneeling with his bottom in the air. 8/10 times he will wake up in the morning after a 12 hour sleep with a wet midrift. What can I do to stop it? He is currently in Pampers Active Fits size 5. I've tried pointing "percy" downwards and changing him just before he goes to sleep and reducing his fluid intake but its more about the way he sleeps I reckon... help!

Pull ups maybe? (the elastic bit might hold it in better...)

Alibobbles · 04/01/2007 10:27

Would it be worth putting some padding in of some description??

Does it bother him? Ds has this problem too but he doen's seem to wet the bed much and he isn't too bothered about being a bit wet so I just wash a few more pyjamas and leave it at that.

If it is a major problem you may find that some re-usables are better (ask for advice on the nappies thread) or maybe just a different brand of disposable - sometimes some brands fit a bit better than others.

Sorry I can't be more help.

Sorry just realised this IS the right thread duh!!!

Maybe someone who can help more will come along

Do you still use vests with poppers?

I found with both my boys that they held the nappy in tighter to the body and there was less chance of leaks.

Alibobbles · 04/01/2007 10:46

I do use the body vests still and that does help I think. I suppose it cant be bothering him too much if he's still sleeping 12 hours or so. I suppose its me who is doing more washing that it is bothering more. He sleeps in a grow bag and it can end up quite wet with him.

Have you tried a different brand of nappy?

I usually use Tescos nappies but bought some pampers as the were on offer at the co-op and it saved a trip into town. DS (also a tummy sleeper) leeked out of them 3 nights in a row - wet PJs, wet sleeping bag, wet sheet - as soon as he was back in the tescos ones the leeking stopped.

ShouldKnowByFriday · 04/01/2007 23:16

Had same situation with DS also in active 5 so changed him before I went to sleep and that has done the trick.

skibump · 04/01/2007 23:29

Hav similar problem with 10 mth old. He likes to sleep on his side and often wakes up wet down one side. Also in pampers active fit (size 4). Any ideas?

Alibobbles · 05/01/2007 11:28

Tempted to strap his undercarriage down but in view of potential cruelty will try alternative brands. Will try the Tesco one..

Sorry to be old fashioned but have you tried terry nappies using a kite fold and booster with plastic pants over the top. Make sure you run your finger around the waist band and leg openings of the pants to ensure none of the nappy is sticking out and you shoudnt get any leaks

twickersmum · 05/01/2007 14:13

i am having the same problem with active fit size 4
dd2 is 14 months, having 7pm bottle, then midnight bottle and more often than not another at 6am (nightmare, yes, i know, am watering them down). so the nappy can't cope with 3 bottles of milk and her midrift is often wet as the nappy is saturated around that point...

any advice welcome too...

skibump · 05/01/2007 23:05

Twickers, I tried using a larger size just at night and that did help - more nappy so more absorbancy. DS still in sleepsuit so I'm going to try the vest with poppers suggestion - thx Suki

TheBlonde · 05/01/2007 23:13

Have you tried pampers baby dry instead? They absorb much much more than the active fit
(they also now have stretchy sides unlike before)

twickersmum · 05/01/2007 23:30

thanks - will have a go at a bigger size and the baby dry instead.
i did try huggies supreme/the more expensive huggies, but they were worse than the active fit.

Alibobbles · 08/01/2007 11:01

Two nights in Tescos own (not the active ones) and two dry nights. Its a start!

I found that the bigger Pampers made the problem worse because there was more space in them.

I know with reusuables the popper vests tend to make matters worse (pressure making the wee shoot off at a tangent - that was the science bit by the way ) so it maybe worth trying without?

Alibobbles · 09/01/2007 10:29

Night three - Wet this morning! Will stick with the Tescos for now.

I had the same problem with DS who is 2 and a half. In the daytime in Tesco size 5 no problems. At nightime have gone for a bigger size which seems to work, also putting on usual size 5 nappy with a pull up on top seems to do the trick. Hope that helps

Alibobbles · 10/01/2007 10:40

Night 4 - dry. Three dry out of four is a definite improvement. Friend has just rang me saying she is having the same problem with her son. Seems like this is a problem which Pampers and Co have not managed to resolve yet. Certainly seems to be the boys who are suffering!

Just to add here too another vote in favour of Tesco's nappies - after reading here I tried them and they have done the trick for my son too - after endless nights of him waking up 2 or 3 times having soaked right through his clothes, sleeping bag etc. he still now wakes up, but no leaks!
