Baby with nasal congestion

Hi my little girl is 4 weeks tomorrow but was born at 35 weeks.
I've noticed these last two days lots of snot up her nose and when she takes a bottle she takes a few sucks then stops to breate for a new seconds and carry on where as before she was continuous sucking for a few minutes before stopping,
Should I see them doctor? She's otherwise we'll. alert, feeding, wet and dirty nappies

I use the calpol saline spray whenever need it and sometimes take my baby in the bathroom after I had a shower and is still a bit of steam or she goes in with me during as long I don't make it excessively steamy, it's meant to be good for them. If you're worried just see your GP to put your mind at rest

Poor lamb. Maybe call your health visitor and mention it.

The saline spray is good and I used the tube thing where you suck one end to clear the nose. It's tricky to get the hang of at first but works well and makes a real difference. Maybe try it when she's asleep at first so you can be as precise and gentle as possible.

Thank you.
I will buy the calpol saline spray today. She doesn't seem uncomfortable so maybe if it gets worse I'll take her to the gp. I'll see what my oh thinks later when his home from work and feeds her to.
Her breathing sounds regular so maybe just one of those things.

Ds2 had this until he was about 3 months old. I used the snot sucker aspirator thing before every feed which really helped. My gp said it was just mucus clearing from his immature system. Apparently if you have a quick labour babies can be more sniffly or mucousy. So I was told anyway! (4min long 2nd stage here)

LittleBearPad · 14/03/2016 18:37

Babies can be quite gunky to begin with so I wouldn't worry if she seems otherwise well. Steam and saline are great.

Don't worry about the pauses in feeds either. She may just be having a look at the world!

I've actually sucked snot from my babys nose it's far more gentle than those plastic things

LittleBearPad · 14/03/2016 20:07

Well you aren't meant to poke them into their noses.

My dd was the same for first few weeks when she was born. The nasal spray really worked. Put a folded up muslin under her mattress to raise her head slightly when she's sleeping to drain the mucus.
