It's nothing serious- a rotten cold and cough, along with teething and blistered nappy rash. I feel useless, and the little monkey went to bed tonight without his tea or bath, and wouldn't drink much milk either.

He is sleeping now, but i'm worried about him I know in the wide scheme of things it probably sounds silly. It could be much worse i know.

how old is he? I remember when dd2 was 11 weeks she had a HORRID cold and crusty eyes and sore bum. I couldn't stop crying about her feeling ill. she went to sleep without much mil at all and in dirty jammies and I felt awful. I know how you feel, it's not silly, it's your maternal instinct. he will be fine though

DetentionGrrrl · 03/01/2007 21:35

he's 6 1/2 months. His nappy rash bled this morning . It looks much better now though with a different cream on it. I just wish he'd eat / drink properly, and i can't stand his struggling to breathe either.

Are you using vapour rub on his chest to help his breathing? DS2 has been full of cold all over christmas, really blocked up and snotty. Vicks worked a treat! Really helped his breathing, so he settled better.

My dd2 is 9 months now and has really sore nappy rash that has bled - it looks so horrid doesn't it? What cream are you using? I've found that metanium heals it very quickly...

Notquitesotiredmum · 04/01/2007 12:41

Just a second vote for Metanium. Works wonders in a crisis. Just use a very very little bit

NotQuiteCockney · 04/01/2007 12:45

Naked time is really good for nappy rash. This page is good on the different types of nappy rash, if a bit American.

It's normal for them to go off their food when they're ill. It's why babies always have a nice little layer of fat on them, so they can go off their food and still be fine.

DetentionGrrrl · 04/01/2007 12:54

i have been using Metanium and Vicks. His 3rd tooth is peeping through today, so hopefully over the worst of it. From where it is, i think it's a molar

he napped for about 20mins in his cot just now, but woke up and is now sleeping on my lap, resting his head on my chest instead

i just feel useless when i can't comfort him.

Horrid, isn't it, when you can't comfort them?

Make sure you get the vicks and metanium on the right ends!

DetentionGrrrl · 04/01/2007 20:31

well he's zonked out early again, and without really having any tea. i tried giving him his tea earlier today incase he fell asleep early again, and he dropped off before 6pm without a bath again. still sleeping now, although coughing something chronic on and off.

Ah it's awful when they're poorly. If he wakes up coughing, I can recommend taking a kettle up with you and taking the lid off and letting it boil filling the room with steam, ... it really helps.

zephyrcat · 04/01/2007 23:01

If he is very snotty, sometimes it helps them to put a pillow under the head end of the mattress - helps the stuffiness a bit through the night.

Go easy on the vicks as well.

nappyaddict · 08/01/2007 02:56

the only things that work for my ds' nappy rash are:

emu oil
grapefruit seed extract
honey
egg white
germoline
morhulin
nystan
aveeno
sprilon (i got the last 3 on prescription though)
