DS is 21 months and loves playing games where he points to things in books/body parts when you say "where's x/y/z?". He has a good few words and can recognise lots of animals, cars, food, the usual! However he doesn't seem to get the concept of colour

We were given a copy of 'Wow said the owl' by the children's centre when my son was nearly 2. He loved it and it really helped him with learning his colours.

Sorry it should say model it

Also research has shown you should name the object first and then the adjective so look at the car that's blue or the stick that's long. Sounds funny to talk like that but helps apparently.

Just keep bringing it up while you're doing other things, I find I do a lot of colours with Dd (2yrs2mths) while doing laundry, asking her what colour each thing is then telling her if not sure. Then when out and about, point out cars of different colours. Frequent repetition and praise when they get it right, eventually they get the hang of it!

DD is getting there with her colours - she's 2.5. We just did little and often. Every time an opportunity presented itself we'd ask her what colour something was. She started by answering "PINK!!" every time but she gradually got there. Coloured pens are good too. Time and practice. As pps have said no hurry.
