When Is It Time To Worry?

I care for a girl who is 3y8m. Has been out of nappies for over 8 months but is not potty trained, shows no interest in sitting on a toilet (even with new special childs seat) or potty.

Does not seem to know, or may be just too stubbon to say, when she is wet. Will happily sit in a puddle for ages and ages.

HELP - I'm no good at potty training!

Hi nannynick.
I am by no means an expert AT ALL on this subject but know exactly how frustrating this must be for you as I have been going through the same thing with my DS1 (3.1).
I started training him last May and after a tricky start he cracked it, then regressed, then cracked it again, then regressed. This has been the most frustrating and most difficult part of raising my son so far. I was being given so many different pieces of advice about how to handle it that it just led to confusion for all of us.

A week before Christmas (when most of us are under enough stress as it is) I decided to do the dreaded thing and I put him back into nappies. This was such a difficult decision for me to make as we had been trying so hard for such a long time. Anyway after 10 days of the nappy he turned around and said he wanted "big boy" pants again. This was 3 days ago. He was dry the 1st 2 days and was for the first time ever taking himself off to the toilet all day long. He had an accident this morning but the odd one is still to be expected. Its a huge improvement on 4-5 accidents a day!

All I can say is maybe its worth a try reverting back to nappies for a while to ease off the pressure for both of you. My son is extremely stubborn about most things and likes to have control over everything!!!

Good Luck.
