3 year old potty trained for wees but pooing in pants up to three times a day

My DS has been potty trained for wees for about 6 weeks - 2 months now and only has the occassional off day with accidents but he poos in his pants every single day sometimes up to three times a day. When he's done it, he says "me pooey" and sometimes thinks it's funny.

What can I do to persuade him to use the potty? We've tried stickers and bribes to no avail. MIL suggested altering his diet to harden his poo up a bit to make it easier for him to feel but I'm a bit reluctant to go that route as I think it being uncomfortable might just make him stop going at all.

Help!

this is mpre common that you think.
When I potty traine my dd in April, via Cod's boot camp, she was dry within a week but it took til mid june for her to stop pooing in her knickers. I have spoken to so many mums who say that the poo control can take a while to follow, and i now believe that there was nothing i could do, as much as i tried, it had to come in it's own time.

Thanks alittlebitshy. It's good to know that I'm not the only one and that it's not that uncommon.

Hopefully he'll crack it soon and at least I've developed a good poo-removal techniqe now!

Totally agree with Alittlebitshy.
Loads of threads on MN re this so be reassured it is quite common.
My DS was dry at 2.5, hardly any accidents, but didn't stop pooing his pants until he was 3 (also tried everything, start charts etc) but the major bribe that worked was that he wouldn't be able to go on our camping holiday unless he pooed in the toilet (or maybe the bribe didn't work and it was just coincidental to his development!)
Anyway, he would only poo once a day though (would usually sneak behind the sofa the little tike!) and wasn't too bad as it was generally quite firm and could be easily tipped into the loo off his pants (sorry if TMI).
My only practical advice is to buy loads of cheapy pants from Matalan and Tescos so that you can chuck the most disgusting ones that you can't face washing!
It will get better eventually. Good luck!
