When did your child move to a forward facing car seat?

Just that really, I no rear facing for as long as possible is the best thing. DS is 17 months, 10kg (car seat says minimum of 9kg for forward facing, his feet are slightly cramped now rear facing so I'm debating turning the seat but not sure if he's too young so thought I'd see if I can find out what the average sort of age is?

DS almost 4 and stil rf - we've got a Besafe Izicombo isofix. I'll be looking at moving him ff soon as his head is getting close to the top. Also isofix only up to 18kg so after that I need to use the seatbelt which I'm not so keen on. He is still very comfortable - no leg cramping as the base is raised so plenty of space. I'd love to buy another rf (with hindsight I should have got one that went up to 6 years) but will be looking to buy the best ff hbb I can.

Imwithspud we have the joie steadi in grandparents car. Bought it originally as it is narrower and one if the few seats to fit well in their Toyota verso. Dd is with them 2/3 days a week and they do multiple journeys, she doesn't seem to be uncomfortable or unhappy in it. I was impressed with the quality, it is well padded and it is as good as the britax I have in my car. The only issue is lifting baby over the seatbelt but its the same with the britax and not a huge inconvenience.

Which car seat reports have been questioned. Due to them testing only in one type of car (this may not be the car you drive) and at the point I got our two way elite which didn't have a very good Which report. They tested it forward facing. So I'm not sure I trust there results.

It's far more important that it passes the safety tests and fits your car well. Which is why it's important to get them fitted. A lot of hight Street retailers have been shown to be really poor at this to unfortunately.

We also had a baby who screamed in his baby car seat. We couldn't go on very long trips with him. We'd have to stop a lot.

When we switch him to the bigger erf seat that stop be was so much happier. I think the baby seats squash them to much. I've hurd many other people on hear say that to. They get a very good clear view out the back to. Better then a ff seat.

Which report the lowest safety result of FF and RF for seats that can go both ways. RF seats tend to be heavy and so get less good results if you put them FF. But of course that is irrelevant if you have bought them to be RF!

Thanks adog! I've just realised that in car safety centre is only 1.5hours from me. Might have to book in with them and make the journey down there as they seem to have a good variety of rf seats of their website is anything to go by.

Grr sorry posted too soon, my phone has a mind of its own at the moment.

I was going to say I'm quite surprised that I don't actually know anyone / haven't met anyone who erf their DC. Everyone we know has turned to ff before the age of one, when they've seen our car seat and we've explained it's erf we might as well be talking a foreign language, as no one seems to have heard of it. It's really weird.

I'm another one whose DC hated his car seat from birth, he would never sleep in it and would cry after about 20 minutes. But he is really happy in the erf seat, he has a good view out of the window as its a bit higher up, and he's not as cramped, we did an hour long journey the other day and didn't hear a peep out of him. Am really happy with it so far and hoping to rear face for as long as we can.

My oldest is 9 now but was RF until 4 when younger sibling needed the seat. It was rare back then but but not unheard of. I had to order the seat from Sweden - was a Graco something or other, same as the be-safe ezi one I think. Great seat, kids loved it, I loved it - was isofix, had a good recline and even worked as an infant carrier with its own integral wheels and handle - caused quite a stir pushing DS round the airport in it!
