am I feeding my 4 month old too much

Just getting worried that I'm giving my lb too many bottles a day I give him 6 oz but he ends up having 6 bottles a day am I doing it wrong???

When I went and got him weighed the other day the health visitor asked how much I was feeding him and she said it's too many bottles but I thought I was doing it right ? X

Sounds fine to me. My 12 week old weighs 15lb is taking the same. I think the guide on the tin says 5 bottles but if you take into account what is left at the end of each feed 6-7 bottles is probably more accurate.

I agree with cat DD knows when she is hungry and won't feed when she's not. I

Exactly Fips mine won't feed when not hungry, as long as you're not forcing him to drink (which is actually hard to do, I had a feeding schedule in NICU and it was difficult) he is fine

It's pretty impossible isn't it cat I just can't see the point in trying to pacify a starving baby so they feed to this so called schedule. If there hungry they will feed if their not they want.

Fips yeah, mine was because they didn't want him getting dehydrated but he would refuse if he didn't want it! Plus when he is hungry nothing else works. Babies will ask for food when hungry, it's cruel to withhold it because it doesn't fit the average

Also the HV isn't the one who will have to try and comfort an angry baby!

I think I was just worrying coz of his weight as he now weighs 18lb 2oz but thank you all for putting my mind at rest

I can almost guarantee that DD will weigh more than that at 4 months and she is following her centile perfectly so I wouldn't worry.

My DS was definitely offered at least 6 6oz bottles a day at 4 months. He may not have completely finished all of them, but he certainly drank most of it. He's 50th percentile and followed his line. Can't remember what he weighed at 4 months, but at 6 months he was 18lb and was on about 5 8oz bottles a day and I was told he was taking in a normal amount. Some days he'd have more, some less, and he certainly wouldn't eat if he didn't want it. Surely a larger baby would eat a bit more than average? (I admit I have no idea if that's true!), but even then, you're still well within the realms of normal!

You definitely can over feed a baby. I know because I did it. He BF really effectively from birth and was a content baby. He was fat and continued to put on chubbyness until I twigged that I needed to slow down the feeding otherwise I was going to create a bigger problem. He wasn't feeding all the time but I think he drank quickly. He was a really really big baby.

I just gently gave him less. It wasn't a problem.

He was off the charts for height and weight as a baby and was a bit chubby as a toddler. He then slimmed down and now, as an adult, is now 6'4 and skinny.

My Dd is 4 months. Shes having 5-6 6oz bottles a day . My health visitor said that's perfectly fine. She 14lbs. She feeds on demand.
I read that a 4 month old should be about double their birth weight. So aslong as she isnt massively over weight I wouldn't worry. All baby's are different, your not doing anything wrong.
