Baby sleeping bags

I've heard that unicef specifically recommend gro bags (the brand) over other brands of sleeping bags for baby. Does anyone know why? Is it because some manufacturers do not produce ones which are as safe? If so - is it a matter of looking carefully at other makes to make sure they have certain features? Anyone any ideas?

I'm pretty sure that grobags were the only kind available when they first "came out" so to speak. I remember getting one as a gift for my ds1 when he was born, 11 years ago and thinking how great and unusual it was, you certainly didn't see them everywhere like you do now. So probably they were recommended back then as in the product itself as opposed to the brand specifically. If that makes any sense?

I've used all different kinds btw, and the grobags don't seem much different apart from the eye watering price! Sainsburys ones are my favourites as they are very soft and wash well.

I have no idea. I have always used sleeping bags from places like Asda or Sainsbury's and they seem fine. Not much different from grobags that I've seen in other shops (apart from being much cheaper).

We get DD's from eBay. Had a mix of GroBag, supermarkets, and etc. I've never really noticed any difference in quality!

I read somewhere it was something to do with the zips. Zips on the front were safer because you'd instinctively put a baby in the cot on its back if you'd zipped it in that way. But lots of the GroBags have side zips too...
