for the last 2 nights 5 month old ds has woken up at 3am on the first night and midnight last night. he has been sleeping through since 5 weeks so this is a bit odd. i thought he was teething last week - grizzly and bright red cheeks, but no signs of a tooth and teething symptoms seemed to have vanished so i don't think it is that. seems perfectly chirpy when awake .. any ideas?

Just one of those things... DS woke at 4am for a play a few nights about that age. Will he go back to sleep after a feed? Might just be a growth spurt and needing more milk xxx

have given him milk but doesn't really want much. will drink some cos must be a little hungry as not eaten since 5/6pm but he is not waking up crying for a feed so not starving iyseim. maybe it will pass then. no waking as of yet although it's been close. i am touching wood as i type.

quootie - we must stop meeting like this on late night threads!

well, must just be one of those things. Dont, or try not to do anything, just let him lie awake and do his kicking about and that, and let him fall back to sleep... if you say, get him up and play etc. he will start to make a habit of it xxx

ahhh that could be where i went wrong. when he did it the first night my mum got him out of his cot and bought him down to me. i let him stay up for about an hour whilst i was on here bad mummy alert!! i'm guessing when he woke up the next night at midnight he remembered that he had got picked up out of bed when he was heard so he proceeded to make himself noticed. and he was fetched out of bed again! the fact he isn't waking at the same time each night tells me it probably isn't real hunger.

Not a bad mummy!! But try to leave him as much as you can, if hes not wanting anything or crying. He wont understand night time is for sleeping, he might think its split into 2 with a play and cuddle in the middle

sounds like me yesterday. was shattered so went to bed at 9. got woken up just before ds woke up by my mum tripping over something outside my bedroom. felt wide awake so came down to come on MN (yes i know VERY SAD) shortly followed by ds 20 minutes later. so i really shouldn't blame him for thinking he can do the same
