8 month checks - did I imagine them??

... or should my (9 month old) dd have had one by now?? Have no particular desire to have an (alegedly) badly informed hv tell me my dd is fine, but am somehow feeling cheated...

In our area you don't get them unless you ask. They aren't really routine any more.

bobsmum · 18/12/2006 19:38

Not imagined! They've scrapped them in the last year or so and 2 and 3 yr checks too. Barmy IMO - means concerns are often missed until preschool or later.

They're given routinely in my area...it's now the 8 -12 month check.

still routinely here, I'm in scotland

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 18/12/2006 19:42

BabyDragon's just had hers at 10 months. They're running well behind in Croydon as they're clearing a backlog. Epsom don't have them at all though.

If you want to pick up your free canvas bag and books though, youcan get them froma library

DizzyBinterWonderland · 18/12/2006 19:43

what do they do at them?

COPPERfeelunderSantasTOP · 18/12/2006 19:43

Dd had hers last month. (Cambs)

COPPERfeelunderSantasTOP · 18/12/2006 19:46

At dd's check the HV was looking at whether dd could sit, bear weight on legs, pass things from one hand to the other, and whether she was babbling yet. Dd was weighed and had her head circumference measured.

bobsmum · 18/12/2006 19:46

Definitely gone in my part of Stirlingshire - was sure they were being phased out nationally.

winterWOMBAland · 18/12/2006 19:46

The hv asks loads of questions about the general well being of your baby... sleeping, eating, crawling, babbling etc...
The baby is also weighed and length is measured, as well as head circumference. The hv also checks hip joints etc..
You may also get asked how you're feeling and then you can ask any questions you may have. Normally takes about 20-30 mins.

ok thanks!

[Sorry, not relevant to post but if TinsellyRhino about, I did post the chickpea recipe on previous thread about 14wk weaning if you want it! Better late than never?!) - Walnutshell "master of posting non-relevant to thread"]

having ours at 10 months -even though they are still referring to it as the 8 month check!

BexieID · 21/12/2006 18:49

My old HV in England when I visited said Bubba Tom was due, but new HV in Scotland says they don't do it anymore. Toms 8 months.

flutturkey · 21/12/2006 18:51

DS hasn't seen a HV since he was 5 months old, he's now 13 months.

morningpaper · 21/12/2006 19:10

It's odd, my first was checked all the flipping time! My second is 14 months and hasn't been checked since her 6 week check.

lulumama · 21/12/2006 19:12

DD had 8 month check , 8 months ago ! and then MMR and weigh in and general chit chat at 13 months...
