DD1 has just turned 9. Ive just dropped her off at a party, in pretty jeans a t-shirt and her heelys.
Then her mates started turning up. In grown up clothes with shoes with heels looking more like 13 than 8-9.
While we were waiting for the party girl to arrive I asked what everyone wanted for Xmas...High School Musical DVD they all said.
Oh right , said I....
DD1 wants playmobil crocodiles and pandas.
She doesnt watch much TV, her choice, even if she did we havent got sky.
Ahh...cant put my finger on it, just feel guilty that she...well I would say acting her age. But these other girls are clearly so much older, looking and maybe in the head too? Dunno..

Guilt? Be proud of yourself I say. Kids grow up to fast these days (Oh dear, starting to sound like my mum now...)

agree with peaches. Here my LOs are familiar with power rangers, spiderman etc and even have a few character toys, but have no interest in watching them on TV. And i prefer it that way.

Absolutely agree with what's been said - childhood is too precious and most of those girls won't realise what they've missed out on until too late....well done!

You have nothing to feel guilty about - just let her grow up in her own time.
I wouldn't let a 9 year old wear high heels and 'grown up' clothes either; that is down to the parent allowing it though, rather than the child being more mature.
Re: "most of those girls won't realise what they've missed out on until too late", I don't think High School Musical is at all inappropriate for this age group.
My children love it, and they also love Playmobil, Lego, dressing up, martial arts, cuddling up with me on the sofa to watch a movie, going to the park with their friends etc.
These girls probably like lots of other, seemingly more 'childish' things too.
I wouldn't worry about making comparisons between children based on their party outfits and whether or not they love a Disney musical.
