Things I've rediscovered since becoming a parent

SInce becoming a parent I've been reminded of lots of things that I used to enjoy as a child but I'd completely forgotten about.

  • Playdoh. Me and my brother played with the stuff for about an hour last weekend (with our 2 children of course.)
  • Spaghetti hoops and fishfingers. Love em.
  • Jelly. filled with lots of fruit I'm starting to get cravings.
  • Laughing Cow cheese.
  • Mr Potato head. Another one that seems to occupy adults as much as children.

foxinsocks · 16/12/2006 20:42

for Christmas for dd and ds, I've bought them those colouring books with geometrical designs. I am ITCHING to go and make a pretty pattern . I always hated the normal colouring books!

TinsellyRhino · 16/12/2006 20:43

sillysillysally · 16/12/2006 21:11

cruisemum1 · 17/12/2006 08:06

silly - lol at getting annoyed about neatness!you just wanna grab the felt tip and do it for them!

AND - i love the smell/feel/clumsiness of crayons!

mandymac · 17/12/2006 08:22

Going down the slide (well DD is too little to do it on her own at the moment) .
How much fun feeding the ducks is.
Just taking time to walk slowly and really look at things.

exbury · 17/12/2006 23:16

The words to Christmas carols - it took DS and I a good 40 minute car journey to get the 12 days of Christmas right... and I love that the 3 kings apparently come from a place called "orient tar"

sputnik · 17/12/2006 23:45

OOH Foxinsocks you have made my day, they still have thse geometric colouring books!! Must get some for DD to use in about 4 or 5 years time!

I got engrossed in building blocks a while back. Singing is another one. Oh and picking my nose and playing for hours with the bogies .

PrettyCandlesAndTinselToo · 17/12/2006 23:52

Foxinsocks - where?! I've been hunting high and low for the geometric pattern books for ds1, but haven't found any.

PrettyCandlesAndTinselToo · 17/12/2006 23:53

Fishfingers, fuzzyfelt and re-arranging the dolls' house.

foxinsocks · 18/12/2006 09:35

I saw a geometric one in Woolworths but it wasn't exactly what I was looking for so I got them off Amazon. I've linked to colouring books because there are quite a few on there - you just need to scroll through the list.

My fave colouring book that I've ordered is on that list - it's called Dragons Colouring Book (dd loves dragons) - the pictures are lovely, there's a dragon on each page they all have a name and a little description.

zubb · 18/12/2006 09:48

wellies for jumping in puddles and walking through mud.

Festivefunfilledfennel · 18/12/2006 09:51

Playdoh
Playmobile
Christmas
Angel delight
Squabbling
Tantrumming

Some long-forgotten favourite books. Recently really enjoying the Treasure Seekers, Heidi, and the Narnia series.

Anchovy · 18/12/2006 10:05

I blinking love colouring in - thought this was my guilty secret. We were all sitting at the kitchen table and I was colouring in something I had printed up from the CBeebies website (one of the Rubberdubbers, I believe - it had very complicated trousers). DD (3) looked over and said "you've done that really well, Mummy, well done" and I was all chuffed.

Then I thought, FFS, you are 42!

musicals - absolutely adore them. mary poppins, chitty chitty bang bang, everything. my dh has just bought me White Christmas on dvd. can't wait to sit down and feast on them all with dd

housemum · 18/12/2006 17:58

Those colouring books were great - bizarrely the cheapo shops like Wilkinsons sometimes do them too.

When you got a new pack of 30 colouring pens, did you used to draw shapes, one for each colour, then colour it in? Hard to explain - imagine a lot of Babarpapas or CBeebies bugs nestled together, just one of each colour, trick is not to end up with 2 similar colours next to each other.
