No opinion or comments either way, just curious to know if our house is average Smile

Great ideas Artandco and lenibose. My other problem is my eldest is nearly 4, and so doesn't need the same supervison, but unless he's watching TV tends to constantly pester me to 'come and look, I need your help etc. etc.'. I've tried the 'Mummy is just doing a job for 5 mins' line, I've tried star charts, I've tried everything! Any ideas on that one? (He can play on his own for a good 20-40 mins when he feels like it, but it's very hit and miss and rarely coincides with when I need to do stuff!).

Probably too much here.
Dd1 is 3 and she gets maybe an hour in morning when I'm doing the washing and putting things away while the baby naps.
We usually go out in the afternoon but if we don't go out then we watch a movie together or play on the iPad (dd has learned to write her name and count using the iPad so I use it as educational and it's been amazing).
She gets maybe another 30 mins while I'm making dinner otherwise she gets up to mischief.

Sometimes she helps with dinner but dd2 is 10 months and won't stay at peace for more than 30 seconds just now. The high chair isn't in the kitchen as there's no room for it so I can't put her in there.

I'm packing to move House though so I probably rely on tv a bit more just now just because of that.

After Xmas I'm back to work, dd1 starts nursery and we will hopefully have moved house where they will have a play room with no tv in it.

DD (13) watches an hour at the most on weekday (not every day) and 2-3 hours on Saturday & Sunday. DS (10) doesn't watch any during the week but can be occasionally tempted with a dvd at the weekend (so maybe 1½hrs).

We don't have a tv in the lounge which most of their friends are amazed by.

No. My 4 year old can do the same. Come Mummy see my dinosaur eating up my train etc etc etc. I often end up using a timer and saying till it beeps you play by yourself. Still a work in progress.

My teenagers don't watch any tv at all. Absolutely nothing.

I was trying to work out how old they were at the peak if telly watching, and aged around 8/9.

Artandco Thanks for those suggestions, really hadn't crossed my mind they could help 😐

Yes, there's lots of helping going on. That said, when the two year decides swinging on the back pocket of jeans or whacking her sister with a wooden spoon, or the baby is eating loo roll while the toddler helps clean the loo etc etc etc, TV is the easiest/safest option for 15 minutes.

Scotinoz · 08/12/2015 01:54

Apologies, that was an unnecessarily sarcastic reply. I think you were quite patronising using me as an example though.

For the record, I say too much TV when they watch about 20minutes. They partake in a lot of wholesome activities. I am not a saint. I survive on little sleep, I need to get some crap done round the house and drink hot coffee, I can do this during four episodes of Peppa.

Being smug about how your children were gainfully occupied cutting mushrooms really just makes other mothers feel shite.

Artandco · 08/12/2015 07:30

Sorry, I only used you as an example for the ages of your children. No need to eat me

Artandco · 08/12/2015 07:30

I also have children close in age so was just mentioning what helped us
