Help - leaking Totsbots!!!!!

I never imagined for a second I'd have to post this. But ds has had a wet patch between his legs twice in the last week. Admittedly he'd been left a lot longer in his nappy than usual, but as he is in one at night for up to 14 hours I thought he would be ok.

He's 20 mths and weighs something over 30lbs. He wears Totsbots size 2 with large ME popper wraps. Everything is 15 mths old.

My theories are -
the wraps have lost their waterproof-ness? OR
ds has grown out of either his nappies or the wraps? OR
he may have been wearing too tight trousers on those days? (really clutching at straws here...)

Please help!!!!!

This happened with dd's TBs. It turned out to be due to the elastic having loosened so much. I bought a few new ones and sent some for re-elastication (write to their customer services - costs £2 a nappy).

Saying that though 30lb is quite a bit heavier than dd and I've been thinking of getting some size 3s for her. It's not the trousers though: dd weras tights all the time and she's OK.

he's not likely to pee as much at night as he's not drinking as much as in the day, so it may just be that he was in the nappy too long (was the nappy saturated when taken off?). Could the nappy have been gaping a bit at the leg?

Have you tried a bit of boosting to see if that helps?

SP - was pondering investing in the next size, but would like to avoid it if possible. Interesting about the elastic though - round the waist is fine but I'll have a closer look at the legs.

Tissy - nappy was wringing wet! I boost at night, but haven't during the day to avoid bulking him up any more than he is already, but it might have already come to that now.

I love my Tots - I hate it that their 100% leak-proof status has been dented without a blimmin good reason.

Will try a tumble dry first. I'd much rather replace a few wraps than more nappies. At least new wraps will be here for ds to run around in the garden for our summer (that is if we've not had it already!). Or I could become a hardcore clothie and go for some posher patterned ones....

Have to say that DS is in the same combo of nappies/wraps and sizes (he is 2 and weighs about 32lbs). The only time we get leaks is when he has just wee'd too much and the whole nappy is sopping wet.

On the plus side now he is so keen on having a wee on the loo (although no where near ready to be out of nappies) we are considering not boosting him at night as his nappies are not very wet at all!

I definitely remember from about 20 months onwards he started getting through more nappies all of a sudden but I put it down to the fact that he loves his apple juice and was just weeing so much.

Glad to hear Tots will re-elasticate the nappies for £2. Ours don't need it. Anyone else fed up with the sodding velcro coming off the front? I have sewn up some of them but don't have my mum's sewing machine now and the rest are starting to come off. No point hand sewing as they would just come off again.

Freddiecat- if the velcro comes off buy a couple of nippas and use them instead!

Mudda, I thought you were a 'hardcore clothie'

SamN · 01/06/2004 15:47

Mudda, I'm glad you posted this query cos I've had a very similar prob with my 26 mth old ds, who weighs about the same (I think).

It started at nursery and I thought it was just because they didn't like cloth and were putting off changing him, but then I had some leaks too.

I was sure that I'd heard about tumbledrying realigning the molecules in the PUL wraps but didn't get any response to this from fellow clothies on another board. I shall be trying this myself now. Did it work for you or did you have to buy some new wraps?

Hi Sam - I had another look at ds in his tots and wraps and figured that they were too small for him.

I did tumbledry the wraps but still got wet leaks (never a poo leak might I add!!!!) so I guessed the waterproofing had just given up.

I've now just received (a coupla days ago) 4 XL ME wraps and 7 really gorgeous rainbow Tots boosters - like qa packet of Refreshers! Ds is boosted to the hilt and now walks like John Wayne, but all is contained! Incidentally on the care leaflet for the wraps, the tumble drying thing was suggested too.

However his tots really don't seem to be fitting very well at all the more I think about it - you can see his bum crack at the back and I struggle to nippa the sides around his chubby legs. Does this mean I'll have to go for a few size 3s?

Argh dilemma and much expense - but still loads cheaper than Pampers I spose!

Hi Mudda

I'll try the tumbledrying thing but it looks like I might have to buy some more wraps and then maybe some more nappies. Not really keen on getting size 3s because ds probably ready for potty training only I want to wait until the next one comes along first (dd 18 July). But I can't imagine the nursery dealing with terries!! May have to do disposables at nursery for a while...

thanks for the info anyway

Sam
