Anyone used real nappies all the way to potty training?

My daughter's 13 months & has been in real nappies since birth but she's decided she doesn't want to stay still when her nappy's being changed - I'm doing my best to distract her & do have a fuzzibunz which I use like a pull up but would be grateful for any other suggestions. Also, I'm worrying about what to do in the summer when she won't be wearing a vest or tights anymore. Will I spend half my summer chasing after her while she shows off her bare bottom??

At the moment I'm using mainly cotton bottoms, which are wonderful for not leaking & lasting through the night. I also have 2 tots bots which I find a bit big but tidier (though the velcro isn't working very well anymore) & the fuzzibunz which I stuff with a prefold & seems pretty good.

What have parents to older tots used? I don't want to spend loads of money but don't want to wait till the nappies start leaking or causing problems because then I'll be tempted to give up & use disposables!!!!

Thanks!!

'Will I spend half my summer chasing after her while she shows off her bare bottom?? '

Yes!

I've used washables until potty training - and some people think that washables make potty training easier due to the fact that the baby can feel when they are wet.

If she won't stay still for a washable nappy, then believe me she won't stay still for a disposible either!

And I found that my dd could take off a disposible far easier then a washable! (that's not a good thing!)

Used Bambino Mios twice all the way from birth.

What does it matter if she flasher her bottom?
I'm sure it's a lovely one.

I think washables helped with potty training. Both mine were dry at 24 months.

me - totsbots.

we had the wriggling at changing time thing too though - I used some clever pinning down/changing with one hand techniques. thinking of starting a yoga school.

DD1 was in terry squares up to toilet training, but was quite compliant.

DS is in mostly tots and I'm struggling at the moment - he's 9 months!
I think it depends on the child as much as the nappies.

I did with dd and I will with ds.

I use wraps with poppers on to prevent them taking their nappies off. The Motherease ones have stiff enough poppers that they can't do them.

Ds is still distracted enough by books and toys at change time. As they get bigger you can bribe/threaten them... Also I had some popper nappies which they can step into (and then you pull them up and do up the last popper).

Totsbots were ok for dd right through to potty training but ds needs a booster as well.

One thing I found - dd was used to feeling comfortably warm and damp and didn't care - so no incentive to potty train. I put her in disposables for 2 weeks and then back in cloth nappies, and then tried potty training. It made her realise the difference between wet and dry (and appreciate how comfy the knickers were when she got them).

DS1 was a terry square and plastic pants baby before moving on to Motherease Sandys and fuzzi bunz.
DD had mothercare terry squares and Motherease popper nappies (sold at Waitrose) and airflow wraps.
DS2 has tots, minki huggles (for nights), a stuffie, nappy nation, a cwlt twt, tots fluffle and I use tots wraps and motherease airflow wraps.

DS was in Motherease one size and later Toddlerease at night up until 3. He is a big boy though.

DD is more average size was only ever in Motherease but she stopped wearing nappies altogether by the time she was 26 months.

My SIL managed with terries until potty training and her DD was an a mega wriggler. I think she potty trained around 2.

Thanks ladies, some useful tips. Her bottom is lovely & chubby (bet she won't thank me for that when she's older), it's more my knees I'm thinking of - they still haven't recovered from ds who used to crawl under the bed & giggle at me. Looks like my best bet is poppers & working on my rugby tackle. Fingers crossed for early potty training.

MayhemMum, you may have tried this but I change ds standing up leaning against the bed/chair/bath, so he can look at a book while I tell a familiar story. After about 12mo he would not lie down to be changed, and we have been quite successful with this 'standing-up' method. He can usually focus for long enough to get his bum cleaned...

PinkTinsel · 14/12/2006 12:20

used bambino mio with dd and she's just starting to get the idea of the potty now and use it when she has no nappy on, and she tells us when she's peeing or pooing.

worked absolutely fine for us, although she's in bulkier nappies like bumbles for night time. ds is also in cloth (differant brands) and will be til potty training.

if she doesn't like nappy changes switching to disposables won't solve that at all!

lots of brands do toddler sizes but tbh if tots bots are too big i think your a long way of needing them!

and whats wrong with a bare bum in summer?
