Going nappyless at night - give me your tips!

My DD (3.2) keeps asking not to wear a nappy at night (shes dry in the day) - so I've promised we can say goodbye to them at christmas. She likes to have a drink of milk before bedtime that she won't be willing to stop - does this mean I need to take her to the loo when I go to bed to help her get through the night dry? I've bought the bed mats but love some tips to help. Thanks

Is the nappy wet in the morning? If so, then she's not ready to leave it off at night.

Iirc, dd1 always had a drink before bed and was dry day and night at the same time.

DD2 is only 21mths and nowhere near ready to potty train, yet her nappy is always bone dry in the morning (she wears cloth so I know it is dry). BTW, she has milk before bed every night as well.

I'd concentrate on moving that milk drink to tea time. Our dd has a small drink of water at bedtime, literally 3 or 4 mouthfuls.
I wouldn't start with lifting at your bedtime (Although I know it works for some) as you want them to take responsibility for what they can feel and what they need to do ie.wake up themselves if they need the loo.
Our dd pestered us to get rid of night time nappies and we were really wary of it but she was right and I think has wet the bed once in almost 2 years. Good luck.

BonyM - some mornings she is some she isn't. She really is starting to put up a fight about wearing nappies at night (I'm a big girl...) as she seems so keen I thought I'd give it a go. Is she still a bit young then? Sorry - first time doing this so not sure!

No, no, not too young at all. It depends on the individual child of course but dd2 was dry day and night at about 2.5.

Why not give it a go then if she is dry most mornings? As welshmum said, try to give her less to dring just before bed - she could still have milk, just less of it.

If you've got the bed mats then it won't be the end of the world if she does wet the bed, and you'll soon see if she's ready or not!

Good luck .
