Having just watched the new BBC programme Flesh & Blood, i was struck by how similar my DD2 was to the little girl having tantrums.
Her mom went to parenting classes in the end and they seemed to make a difference.

Has anyone ever been, and how do you find out about them ?

My Dd is really difficult at the mo and seems to be getting worse not better.
I'm sure i'm not hellping the situation as i never know quite how to deal with her. Also my 18mth old ds is starting to copy her so i really need to get this sorted out.

hi nutcracker - i've just posted on the other one

I attend 'parenting courses', have done about 6 different ones. I do them through Parentline Plus Hopefully there are courses local to you. They're good fun and they cover allsorts of topics, including the obvious ones like tantrums and dealing with challenging behaviour.

I have done parenting classes through my sons school, i enjoyed them even though there wasn't much in it that i didn't already know as i've read loads of parenting books. They did refresh my memory on how to stay calm etc and gave me a few things to think about as well as giving me and the other parents a real laugh at times

THanks for the link Furball, but they don't seem to do the courses in my area.

If you google 'parenting courses in XXXXXXX' (try your town and county) what comes up, and help?

Nutcracker · 17/05/2004 17:26

I tried that Furball but had no joy really.

I am taking Dd to see H.V tommorow so i'll mention it to her. Hopefully she will have some ideas.

I went to some autism specific parenting courses after ds1 was diagnosed- they were run by the NAS. (called Earlybird). They were useful, but would have been more useful a year earlier - but you needed a dx to attend.

You could try your local library for information. They may know what's on locally.

It is worth checking your local college. I recently attended a course on children's behaviour in the evenings. Whilst I was there for my job, there were a number of parents there for personal reasons.

I went on a parenting course recently. Our local authority arranges them (Huntingdon/Cambridgeshire), I found out through our HV. They were great, I really enjoyed it. Lots of tips and good ideas on how to stay calm. Worthwhile for all parents to do I reckon.

Thanks guys. Saw the flippin H.V yesterday and forgot to ask her. I did mention dd's behaviour though and she's being reffered for a hearing test now, just incase her hearing is down.

It must be me cos she behaves fine at nursery. They said she is very quiet and they have to ask her to join in with things.

I keep saying to them that i'll video her and see what they say. They'd think it was a differnt child.
