Folding cloth for boys

Sorry - another question this morning! Thought I'd get them in whilst I had a few mins on the PC!

The advice I was given was to fold the built-in booster to the front for a boy. This makes the front quite bulky and thin on the bottom/back. And when the nappy is removed it usually is quite sodden all around the front and not the bottom. I have yet to experiment with leaving it flat along the length of the inside incase I get any leaks. Plus I find when adding a further booster at night he's rock solid at the front and is very front heavy weight wise (I leave the nighttime booster along the length, but it adds 3 'booster' layers at the front).

What do other cloth nappy users with boys do? Is it 'safe' enough to not bulk up at the front? Has anyone left the built-in booster along the length and padded the front with something else?

Advice needed!

Karen - don't know what nappies you have but I use Tots Bots and old-skool terry towelling.

The TBs have a built in booster, so I fold that up into 3 at the front then have a fleece liner. I have left the booster flat inside but find it (ahem) holds more if the padding is upfront.

With the terry towelling ones I origami them into a kite shape with a double thickness at the front, then pad them out with a folded muslin square folded along the length inside.

I know what you mean about it making him front-heavy, though I think my ds looks quite cute with his big bundle of underwear!

Thanks badhair. I have a couple of tots but only fold in half to the front, may try it in 3. So this is where the expression 'the size of his packet' comes from! Just didn't want to try folding it along the length if someone else has already had that experience! I guess this something to get used to with boys and cloth nappies.

Thanks again.

Thanks bloss. Maybe I will give it a go afterall. I tried folding 3 times but this didn't give enough lower down so maybe I'll try it flat and see what happens. I'll do it on a day when we're not going out so I don't have to worry about spare clothes. I was just being chicken!
