Double buggies

23 weeks with DS2 and DS1 is 13mths. We have an icandy strawberry which I don't think you can make into a double. Stupid - I should have got the peach. Hey ho! Any recommendations on double buggies that are light and slimmish and not too horrible for whoever sits on the bottom?! Also did anyone use a Boori cot and then turn it into a toddler bed? Thanks!

You've got plenty of time. You could keep your eye out for a Bugaboo Donkey at the right price.

At least with a P&T / Donkey you can abandon the double element when you don't want it any more and DS1 can be persuaded to go everywhere on a scooter. The newborn stage is in reality quite short and within 6 months your DS1 will really only use the bucket seat when his legs run out or it's tipping down and you want them both under cover.

I had a similar age gap and we didn't get a double [the Maclaren experience was from a shortlived nanny share]. DD1 was about 20 months and was happy to walk/scoot everywhere most of the time and a sling was there for emergencies.

It totally went to pot when DD1 started nursery though. She was totally wrecked afterwards and would pass out on the seat at the bus stop. The nanny kept getting stranded with a single buggy and two sleeping children. Totally buggered up her back.

In hindsight it was totally a false economy not to bite the bullet and get rid of the expensive travel system we bought for our PFB and replace it with something more appropriate.

It also depends on your needs. We're in London so lots of public transport and narrow doorways etc. A side by side is a PITA but friends who live more rurally swear by their City Jogger [with the single front wheel] for twins though.

Re the cot. We converted a similar one but just bought DD1 a proper single bed when DD2 was ready to go into a cot. A toddler bed is the same length as a cotbed so it seemed silly to buy another one.

Wrt slings we have a Caboo and it's been really good. I got it mainly because dd was (and still is) quite small and it was suitable when the Baby Bjorn types weren't. Although we've borrowed a Bjorn since and that thing breaks my back and dd isn't even 12lb yet!
