Can you tumble dry bamboo nappies?

I am thinking about trying some bamboo nappies - want to know how they standup to tumble drying over time - in the summer is fine as will go on line but in winter will tumble them. I assume they go on low heat - but does it effect the sturcture of the fabric, absorption and longevity?

Thanks boffins!

Have got Bamboozles and have never tumbled them - dry fairly well overnight on airer. I have not used the ordinary cotton TotsBots so don't know what the actual difference is in drying time, but one of the reasons I bought the Bamboozles was that the bumph said they dry quicker than normal cotton.

I recently bought a couple of Motherease cotton nappies from a local rep to try out. During our discussions about real nappies (nice to talk to someone in person rather than virtually on MNet!) she said it really isn't a good idea to tumble nappies as it will eventually affect their structure and reliability - the same as with a t-shirt or any cotton garment.

FWIW, I reckon the Bamboozles absorbency is better than the motherease cotton, but the motherease wraps are better than the tots wraps as they are softer and fit better round the legs.

According to the Geobel (Whambamboo nappies) website:

Caring for your wam-bamboo nappies :

  • Wash at 40 degrees for optimum performance and longer lasting nappies
  • Tumble dry on low heat. Better still line dry whenever possible.
  • Fold back velcro tabs prior to washing to prevent snagging.

I usually tumble for about 40mins and then stick on the radiator overnight.

hang em up in the airing cupboard!
works for me

The problem is nothing seems to dry in the winter without that horible damp smell - then stuff smells so much before it dries - I wash it again. The stuff in the airing cupboard is clean and smells nice - so putting the nappies in there to dry won't work. My question was more about how resilient the nappies are long term to lots of wear/washing and months of tumble drying. I am quite happy to use my dryer - just want to know if bamboo nappies feel the same way! From LRWG post - I would say not - but what about people who have used them for a while now??

Maybe will just buy one and see how it stands up in size one before invest in full set of size 2.

Thanks again

SSK - My tip for avoiding weird niffs is to put a tiny bit of conditioner in the wash although the bumph says not to as it affects the absorbency. Haven't had an probs with leaks so absorbency of mine must be fairly fine!

Also, would advise maybe get the size 2s straight away if your LO is on the large side. My DD is on the chunky side (91st centile on growth chart) and the size 1s only lasted until she was 3 months. If I had known better, would've bought size 2s from the beginning.
