Help! Nursery Room Flooring?

We are preparing the home for our 1st (and long-awaited) child. The floor of the small room that will become the baby's room is currently covered with a heavy carpet. We'd like to change it to something that doesn't hold as much dust and that cleans well. Does anyone have any good ideas? We live on the ground floor and there is cement, not wood, under the carpet. Wood comes to mind right away, but I wonder if this might be too hard and cold.

Thanks a lot!

ummm.... we put laminate. but its abit of a slipping risk. I think a not too thick carpet and get a hoover with a hepa filter. We wont be putting laminate down again, because its awful with socks on! Handy to clean though...

Marmoleum, comes in loads of fantastic colours. It's not cold and washable. You could also look at Amtico, which is also very durable. Forbo Nairn is the manufacturer of marmoleum, you can even have patterns in it these days. I had it in the nursery for my boys. Congratulations by the way.

We have wooden floorboards. The issue of being hard or cold isn't an issue for us because DS spends so little time on it. He sleeps in his nursery but that's it. All of his waking time is spent downstairs in the lounge, kitchen and hall.

I would tend to go for laminate and a rug personally.

I wanted wood in my Dds room. Dp talked me into a carpet wich is warmer and looks lovely.

Now she is two and a half it does have quite a few marks on it from various substances!

I would go for wood with a nice soft rug.

A hard floor which you can mop or wipe is a good idea especially if you are having a boy.

Every time I took DS nappy off in the early days a fountain of wee would cascade onto the floor!

Thanks a lot to everyone who responded. We are leaning towards Marmoleum, which has a new product called Marmoleum Click, which appears easier to install. Does anyone happen to know a good installer - not necessarily for Marmoleum, but for other floorings? It looks like the Click can even be done DIY, but we're not that handy. Thanks
