Question for people who use slings for newborns.....

Hi,
I have a 5 week old baby boy. He's a 'sensitive' baby, as in he's grizzly when he's wet etc, unlike my other 2 babies. He goes from asleep to starving and howling in seconds, wakes up grouchy and is generally pretty grouchy most of the day. He's EBF at the moment but we are going to begin fazing this out, because I am virtually constantly feeding him. He brings up no wind at all, unless he has expressed milk in a bottle, and spends the day writhing and farting. I feel sorry for him and me because he seems so miserable. The only time he's content is if he is asleep upright on my chest. Obviously, this can't go on, I've got 2 other kids one of whom is a toddler, and I'm getting a bit low and stressed out. I'm considering using a sling/carrier so I can function during the day, but m concern is how do you ever get them back into 'normal', or do you end up carrying a 6 month old around constantly? I'm very reluctant to start something that could be a hard habit to break. Has anyone used the sling like this? It's always recommended as a method to cope with grumpy babies, but I don't know anyone who's done it who can talk to me about the benefits/problems....

Thanks lost. We've been using colief drops for the last few days after being recommended by the hv, and it's made a dramatic improvement in his mood, so I haven't bought a sling yet.

I'm currently living this. I feel like the worst mother in the world. Baby just rejected the caboo today and went back to monster feeding. Haven't eaten. Can't get him to nap anywhere. All is very black

I had a nightmare baby still do and a carrier saved my life. I got most of the housework done while he was on me and then when he napped I tried to put him down so I got a little 'me time'. I bought mine off amazon, it was a soft fabric one with buckles and it worked well. Don't worry about making a habit out of it.

kitkat what do you mean by 'rejected'? DD and DS both often grumbled or cried when first put in sling but then settle after a few minutes once I'm walking around.

Sling saved my life. Couldn't put her down because she howled, and also couldn't really do it anyway because we lived in a building site. I used it at home, I took her to the pub, to restaurants, to the cinema (during the day).. and also used it to transport her in general. I still carry her now (13 months), but that's choice because of where I live. When I'm somewhere more buggy friendly, she's fine in that (and has been since 4 months).
