When to quit using a bottle?

I worked for a family who still gave their four year old a baby bottle of chocolate milk as and when she asks for it.

At first it didn't bother me - if it was convenient for them, great! But then there came a time when the child started rolling around the floor going 'goo goo, gaa gaa' and refusing to do anything until they had the bottle in their hand.

This little girl was also incredibly fussy when it came to food. Nothing could be touching anything else and she couldn't have a fork that had already touched the food and god forbid there be something on the plate she didn't like.

I guess I'm wondering if there comes a time when you finally give up and say no more. I always thought that as soon as they had teeth the time came to give up dummies and teats as they can cause trouble with incoming teeth.

Is four just too old for a baby bottle and is it affecting her eating habits?

BlueThursday - try the Tommee Tippee Kids on the Go Super Sipper, it's free flow (similar spout to the regular tommee tippee cups sippy cups) and 300ml/10oz.

Don't agree with any sugary drinks in a bottle, in copious amounts any liquid won't do a child's appetite any good. But it's a comfort thing especially just before bed no different to a breastfeed really before sleep. Needless to say all 4 of my children after I had stopped breast feeding still liked a bottle of milk before bed . None of them have been affected and can I report that it did them no harm whatsoever . In fact on here if you were still breast feeding on demand at 4 years old you would be commended , but give them a bottle . Eye roll , hoiking judgy pants etc etc

Came on here out of interest as ds2 was still having bf, morning evening and waking in the night. He's 22mo so I'm trying to cut back but I equate it to children who have bottles of milk at night (or a cup) and wondered who else was still at it. I know a couple of similar aged children still doing it and think it's got to be ok til about 2 right?

I took the plunge and binned them all at 12 months. I was fed up of washing the damn things up!!
I didnt know there was age limits, it just suited me, and the dishwasher better. Grin

Dd1 was 4 and had one bottle before bed (then teeth brushed ). Agree about the angst it ridiculously causes here!

She's not touched milk since (apart from in her wheetbix and only drinks water now.

My dd breast fed till just under two, when she self weaned, but she continued wanting a bottle for a fair bit longer! It did worry me a bit to be honest, so in the end we bribed her to give it up, with a heat-up penguin. That was some time between two and three years old.
She never wanted anything other than milk in it, to be fair - I always assumed that, because she'd breast fed for quite a long time (including feeding to sleep etc) the milk and the sucking thing were linked to the idea of comfort in her mind.
