Hi ladies, my husband and I are going to be first time parents in February and we decided to try reusable nappies. We've already bought a few different types to see which ones suite us best when the baby is here and have bought nappy bins etc. Just when I thought we had everything organised I noticed these things called nappy liners?! Do we need to use them? Are they useful? Honestly all this information has got my head spinning, any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

I tried briefly, and they were a pain in the arse (wouldn't stay in place, wrinkled up etc) and didn't "catch" everything anyway. Gave up after a couple of attempts.

Breastfed poo nappies straight in washing machine with prewash and extra rinse.
Weaning poo (ie more solid) roll / scrape off as much as possible into toilet (we had a poo scraping spatula) then through washing machine.

Never used liners, and never had any issues.

What nappies are you using? You don't need a liner if there is a fleece layer closest to the skin - if there isn't your baby might be fine but a fleece or disposable liner will keep their skin drier.

I didn't use disposable liners until my baby weaned as breast milk poo can go in the machine - now I use one to flush the poo down the loo!

Reusables are great and good idea to have a few different makes on hand to see which ones you get on with the best.

For newborns, as per above, don't worry about them, it can all be washed but yes, need liners for weaning and onwards.

I tried paper first and liked that you could just pop the whole lot in the toilet. I usually cut them into 1/3 which makes them a bit more manageable. I used these ones lanabambini.co.uk/store/popolini-biodegradable-flushable-nappy-liners-roll.html
Have also used fleece ones which are lovely and soft and the poo (usually!) peels off ok.

Last night I cut up an old fleece ikea blanket to line DS' night nappies - fleece keeps the skin dry. It worked really well, better than the Little Lamb liners I have, and he slept so much better!

Other than that we don't use liners yet as DS is not weaned so poos are still runny. Hoping disposable liners will be handy when he has more solid poos!
