3-4 year old bedtime

What time does your 3-4 year old go to bed? DD goes down at 7pm, but the last few weeks she's been such a nightmare - just keeps calling out, saying she's not tired, she needs the loo, wants me to stay with her. 7pm seems reasonable to me, but just wondered if it's too early? She has to be up by 7am. She doesn't nap during the day.

I'd say about 7 -7.30. What happens before her bedtime? Could she be too over stimulated before bed / has she had enough wind down time?

Artandco · 19/10/2015 21:18

My 4 year old goes to bed around 9pm. Always has done since baby. Just had naps in day when needed. He wakes at 8am.

Mine probably went to bed around 8pm at that age

6.30 here!

blushingmare · 19/10/2015 21:23

We have dinner around 5, bath, a couple of books and then she listens to a story CD or quiet music in bed while I put DS to bed, then I come and kiss her goodnight and turn off the CD player and that's when the antics start! I try to keep it calm, although it's not always easy as DS is pretty high energy at the moment and they love messing around together.

6:30pm, up at 7:30am. No naps.

itsmeohlord · 19/10/2015 21:25

She's trying it on. Ignore as much as you can

dementedpixie · 19/10/2015 21:27

She really might just not be tired. Why not try a little later and see if it helps

mamapants · 19/10/2015 21:29

8pm for my three year old.mostly doesn't nap but sometimes has half an hour.

SomeKindOfDeliciousBiscuit · 19/10/2015 21:35

8pm ish. Sleeps to 7.30-8.30am. We have a good bath/bedtime routine, and cosleep, so I stay with her until she's asleep. Very quick.

ffffffedup · 19/10/2015 21:42

Could she just want a bit of mum 1 to 1 time? Could you turn off the cd player and maybe read her a story and have a cuddle before lights off at say 7.30??

TurnOffTheTv · 19/10/2015 21:46

8pm till 8am here. None of my children have gone to bed early, all nighthawks!

imwithspud · 19/10/2015 21:52

Dd1 is 3 on Saturday and is in bed usually around 7 but bedtime can be anywhere between 6:30-7:30. I find she's more than ready by that time, especially if she doesn't nap (she's in the process of dropping it). If she does have a rare day where she naps then she will be asleep by 8pm at the latest. She usually wakes at around 6:30-7.

NotSoDesperateHousewife · 19/10/2015 22:08

7-7.30 for DS here (just 4). We let him stay up later at weekends. Friday gone he went to bed at 9.30 and decided we were the best Mummy and Daddy ever Grin

backinaminute · 20/10/2015 06:42

My two are 2 and 4 1/2. 7pm here too and no intention of making it later anytime soon.

Ds1 did go through a phase of this about 6 months ago and was just pushing his luck I think. He needs a 7pm bedtime (later for a treat) but otherwise he is shattered. He wakes up about 7 too. He has just started school so is really tired.

Recently he has tried it again and now wants a drink just as I am about to turn the light off. I think you know your child and how much sleep they need. One half 7/8-o-clock bedtime wouldn't make much of a difference here but he would be really struggling after a few days of it.

Upstairs at 7.30pm for teeth/story then asleep by 7.45/8pm. She generally sleeps until 7-7.30am unless her little sister wakes her!!

Was 8pm for DD until she started school and now it's 7pm!
