DD's 4th birthday party on Saturday - 14 kids in the church hall. I've looked at some of the other threads on parties and got some good ideas. But wanted to ask about parachute games - we've managed to borrow one of those parachutes but don;t know what to do with it! Any ideas anyone?

Have you some little plastic balls? You know, the type that go in ball pools 0 like these . If so, throw a handful on top and lift the parachute up and down and the balls will bounce about.

Other than that it is a case of lifting it up and down to make the parachute move about. The children can try crawling underneath it - seeing if they can get to the other side - needs other adults to help then.

Gentle wafting of parachute with children on top - not standing! - to feel the movements.

We had one at Tumble Tots and all the children adores them.

here - the children just get fun from the lifting it up and down, like on the picture

Shake it up and down to trap air under then kids can climb on top and pat the air out (need a few adults or kids to remain on outside to keep edge on floor). Can roll lightweight balls across this too. Shake up and down then all go underneath and sit on inside edge like a tent. Flap up and down, some hold it up like a dome and others run underneath.

You can play cat and mouse- one child under while the others make it go up and down. The cat is on top trying to find the mouse, great fun.

Or swapping, giving child number/ colours or just shouting names- all the '3s swap' and they have to run under and get someone else's place.

Or putting some clothes under in 2 piles and 2 children go in and try to put clothes on by the count of 10 waves of the parachute. Can make it easy for 4 yr olds- scarf & hat.

thanks everyone - I've just had a search on the web and found a site full of games - not just parachute games but all sorts it's scoutingweb.com/scoutingweb/Program/Games.htm - definitely worth a look
