Poo accidents in a nearly 5 year old....

Please someone tell me that their 4 or 5 year olds still have poo accidents! Dd potty trained really well at about 2.5, but every now and then seems to "relapse" and have a series of accidents. Two weeks ago, she kept wetting her pants, now she's stopped wetting, and has started pooing!

Twice last week she had accidents at school- both times she was just too interested in what she was doing to pay attention to the "sensation". (Lovely teacher however was full of praise for the way she cleaned herself up!). Last night she was sitting on dh's knee (in nightie, no pants)and pooed on his lap! She said she didn't know she was doing it, but again she was engrossed in the tv.

I've started a star chart, and gave her lots of praise on Saturday when she told me she needed the loo, is there anything else I can do to get her to pay attention to her own body?

Ok, I know it's not as interesting as whether pedofiles should get transplants, but I care a lot more about this!

My ds is five in January and we still have poo accidents. He will try to hold on so as not to miss something on the telly or is afraid to go to the loo as it is dark!!!???? Instead of asking us he has an accident. I thought it was just lazy boys-you are not alone!!!

thanks Balletmum, was beginning to think I was invisible!

my dd1 is exactly the same tissy and she was 5 last month. I have just come to the conclusion that when she wants to , she will do it. A lot of children seem to go through this, especially the not wanting to stop what they are doing/ miss out thing.

fed up with washing out grubby pants though!

My DS1 is five, and still sometimes has accidents or near-accidents. He gets distracted, and can't be bothered going.

I am ashamed to admit that I don't wash out grubby pants I chuck them in the bin....am I a bad mother!!!!!!!!!!!

my DS2 is seven and still has poo accidents. I'm concerned that it's dietry ( sometimes he 'can't feel them come out') and they absolutely stink to high hell. at the moment i'm trying regulating his lactose intake ( he's neverreally been fond of milk) been waiting 18 months for an nhs refferal so am attempting to monitor diet vs poo accidents myself.

and i fling them out - tesco value pants in our house! 5 pairs for £2.

tissy · 05/12/2006 15:48

thanks, I'm no longer invisible

no accident at school yesterday, and promise of a comic with a crappy plastic toy on Saturday if she's clean till then, so fingers crossed!
