Night time happy leaks

Sparrowlegs248 · 07/10/2015 06:46

DS is 10 weeks. Had started to have a leak every night and a poo escape during the day. I went up a size in nappies and and this has helped contain the poo.

Also ensuring i change him overnight so usually 10,2,6.

Went to chagrin him at 2 earlier and he was wet.

Using Aldi size 3. Have found Aldi nappies as good as any other but now wondering if i need something else overnight.

The happy wasn't what i would call full

Have you checked DS is the correct weight for size 3 nappies? Sound like it is leaking as it is too big if it is not full. Are you fastening it right enough?

If so, try a different brand?

I have always used Pampers (tried different brands but always revert back) and don't think either DD has ever had a leak.

Ds is almost 12 weeks - the only nappies that contain him are size 3 asda little angels. I don't have to change him all night in these unless he's done a poo. He leaks out of everything else in the same size: aldi, pampers, Sainsburys tried them all!

Sparrowlegs248 · 07/10/2015 12:38

He was at the top end of the weight for size 2, he's about 12lb now and size 3 are 9 - 20. They look better and go higher at the back containing the poo explosions! I wonder if i just did a crap happy at 10pm last night and somehow put it on badly. He sleeps on his side quite a bit and this is usually when it happens.

I use aldi ones during the day and pampers at night. Keeps nappy cost down plus less leaks. Also with both my dss I made sure i wrapped snug around waist and their boy bits were pointing downwards IYSWIM.

Lilipot15 · 07/10/2015 22:15

Pampers Baby Dry at night for both of mine. Unless we haven't put them on snug enough they manage to contain heavy amounts of wee! Fortunately baby seems to have stopped pooing at night so I don't change the nappy.

Sparrowlegs248 · 08/10/2015 06:17

This is driving me mad. Went from 10 - 2.45. Changed, all ok. Just finished feeding just before 6, wet again. Its def when he's on his side. Again, nappy not full, so its like it just runs out when he's on his side. Willy pointed down, all done up properly, leg frill bits out.

Might buy some papers later to try.

I found Aldi were great for newborns but once we got to size 3, we started getting leaks too, so maybe they're just not as good once babies get older. Using Boots own at the moment which seem fine

FireflyGirl · 08/10/2015 20:06

We had the same problem, and it was when we needed to move up a size.

DS has been in Aldi nappies from the start, and is a heavy wetter overnight - we don't change him 7pm-6am as he often sleeps through, and is a once-a-day, after breakfast poo-er sorry for TMI. When he was consistently leaking even with the bigger size, we changed to Asda. Problem solved. He's still in Aldi during the day, though, and no issues

I think the different brands must be slightly different shapes.

PastaPrincess · 08/10/2015 20:45

We changed from Asda to Pampers Active Fit at size 3 for similar reasons. DS wriggles a lot and sleeps on his side/front and they're the only ones we've found that contain the wee.

Dixiechick17 · 08/10/2015 21:04

I use boots 12hr size three nappies at night and Aldi nappies during the day.

Sparrowlegs248 · 09/10/2015 08:44

Thanks all. I bought a pack of pampers baby dry yesterday, put one on at 12 and he was still dry at 7.45. Nappy was FULL but hadn't leaked. They seem a bit snugger than the aldi. To be fair the aldi ones don't always leak and are often very full without leaking. I will stick to the pampers overnight for the time being. :-)

We've tried them all and Pampers are the best fit for our ds. We use active fit during the day and stay dry at night- they are incredibly full and heavy in the morning but he's never wet. I now just use the cheaper ones for his 6pm poo (you can set your watch by him!) because it's only going to be on for an hour! I'm hoping dd (12 weeks) remains ok in her Asda ones as they're so much cheaper.

Sparrowlegs248 · 09/10/2015 20:13

So today has been a nightmare.

Two poo leakages in the aldi nappies. Once in the bounce chair which is to be expected - i think its because he's sitting on his bum a bit more. The other one just while feeding. Poo up the FRONT of the nappy and leaks out under the tabs.

Then a wee leakage while laying down. I put a pampers on at 6.30. He did a poo about 5 minutes later. Poo didn't leak but there was a wet patch on his vest. Same place

Its always on the right side whether poo or wee.

do you turn out the bits that go round his legs? There's a flappy elasticated bit that needs to be folded outwards.

Sparrowlegs248 · 09/10/2015 20:26

Yes i do Illy. I have no idea what the problem is. It doesn't always happen. I wondered if it is when he is on his side and liquid runs out of the leg before being absorbed.

We had this issue with DS for a while around that sort of age. He's also a heavy wetter and a side/tummy sleeper. Tried loads of brands and always had the same issue. In the end I bought the plastic wraps you can put over the top of reusable sand that did the trick. Few quid for a pack of 5 in tesco iirc and you can stick them in the washing machine.

ODog · 09/10/2015 21:18

You still need to change at every feed but it stops them wetting through pjs/sheets etc

Sparrowlegs248 · 09/10/2015 22:57

I'll look out for those thanks. I change him every 2 hrs, or after a feed, or when he poos.

ODog · 10/10/2015 07:41

Hope it works. He still wees lots during the day and I have to change him a lot more than most toddlers but I can get away with it overnight since he stopped night feeds at around 8-9 months.

MeredithShepherd · 11/10/2015 19:02

I've always used pampers baby dry at night. I tend to use tesco/boots during the day but always pampers at night. They are the only ones that actually last 12 hours!
