I'm a single mum to my 3YO daughter... And I was wondering what someone in the same position spends per week on food for yourself and a toddler? :-))

I've got 3 children we spend around £60 a week in aldi and that includes a sneaky bottle of wine Grin

ffffffedup · 05/10/2015 14:56

Sorry I've got a husband too so that's between 5 of us

Notimefortossers · 05/10/2015 21:57

Also an Aldi supporter right here! Also £60 a week for a family of 5!

How on earth do you spend so little?
We spend £80 and that's for 2 adults and a 1yo, but I order with Tesco. How much cheaper is aldi/lidl? As in do you just buy a lot less so it's cheaper or do you still have an abundance of food but it's much, much cheaper?

notapizzaeater · 06/10/2015 10:22

I can save £20 a week easily by shopping at aldi. Son is coeliac so I tend to do 3 weeks of aldi then one week at tesco / m and s stocking up on the bits I can't get at aldi.

QforCucumber · 06/10/2015 10:46

Just DP and I, with 2 cats - between aldi and the butchers we spend £40 a week, maybe £45.

ffffffedup · 06/10/2015 19:38

Aldi fruit and veg is by far cheaper than tesco and imo much fresher. I think Aldi can be cheaper because although they have almost everything you'd find in Tesco but not as many variety of brands so if you want coco pops there'll be 1 max 2 variety etc

NotSoDesperateHousewife · 06/10/2015 19:39

About £80 a week in Tesco (hate Aldi) but I'm feeding 2 adults and 4 hungry children!

ffffffedup · 06/10/2015 19:40

When I shop at tesco I'm conscious of looking at prices but when I'm in aldi I never look at the price I just throw it in the trolley I've never gone past the £70 mark yet and that's with lots alcohol in the trolley

dementedma · 06/10/2015 19:42

About £50 in Aldi for 4 adult appetites, and then about £20 at the butchers ( but some of this goes to student DD to top her up with chicken and mince).Occasional extras are more milk and bread as we go along.

annatha · 06/10/2015 19:49

For me, dh, dd (11 months), a cat and a dog we spend £50-60 a week in Aldi.

Stillwishihadabs · 07/10/2015 06:48

There are 4 of us dh42- with a massive appetite, me 39- trying not to eat too much, Dd 9-veggie and ds 11-hollow legs. We budget £350 pcm , that includes cleaning products and some booze. I shop in Lidl, Asda, the fishmonger and butcher and meal plan obsessively. I think we eat well.

Stillwishihadabs · 07/10/2015 06:53

To answear OP for me and a toddler I reckon £40 p/w.

NickyEds · 07/10/2015 14:16

For me, Dp and toddler (plus 11 week old who has 2/3 of a tin of sma a month) we spend around £100 per week. That includes everything, cleaning products, top up shops etc. We have family gluttons around quite a lot though- probably 3 times a month and that adds up.

BrandNewAndImproved · 07/10/2015 15:00

It's just me and two dc here and I spend between £30 and £40 in Aldi every week.

That includes wine, chocolate, naice food, meat and f&v.

MushroomMama · 07/10/2015 15:02

Dh and I plus two dcs £35-40 a week in lidl

Fooshufflewickbannanapants · 08/10/2015 15:47

2 adults 4 teens and 2 under ten here and we spend between 40 and 65 a week.

Notimefortossers · 08/10/2015 19:00

Whhhhhhaaaaaatttttt?? How are you doing this Fooshuffle? x

Fooshufflewickbannanapants · 08/10/2015 19:17

Meal planning and no premium brands, lentils etc I buy in bulk we don't have meat everyday. I cook from scratch ( slow cooker is awesome ) I also do bulk online so not tempted to buy crappy! !

Fooshufflewickbannanapants · 08/10/2015 19:19

Crap not crappy! !

Fannyupcrutch · 08/10/2015 19:23

I tend to divvy it up between aldi, lidl and farm foods. I buy the frozen chicken breasts, drummers, chines duck and kids ice creams from farmfoods. Aldi and Lidl i buy everything else on alternate weeks. I spend between £80- £110 a week for 2 adults, two hungry teens and a primary school kidlet. That includes alcohol, loo rolls, dog food etc. Bargain! I was spending £140 a week at Asda !

mummypig3 · 08/10/2015 19:24

Family of 5. Around £70 a week in aldi. Includes nappies, toiletries and cleaning products

lavent · 08/10/2015 19:27

1 adult and 3 hungry little boys £40 a week in Morrisons / Lidl.
They get free school lunches so that helps keep costs down.
I meal plan and cook double and freeze which helps too.

StubbleTurnips · 08/10/2015 19:29

2 adults, 1 toddler, DDog and Dcat - 50-60 a week in Aldi with alcohol, cleaning things in the shop.

We have a fair bit of alcohol too Grin

I love these threads for the disparity in them.

What are eating mummy pig to manage that?
