Posting here for traffic.

Been in the house since Friday doing toilet training with ds1 who is 2.10yo.

He has done brilliantly with the wees and on day two he didn't have any accidents at all - got all 6 wees all day in the toilet!

He also managed to keep his pants and bed totally dry during a 90 minute afternoon nap :-)

However on both day 1 and day 2 he did two awful sloppy poo accidents in his pants/all down his legs which really upset him.

Now it's day 3: a small bit of poo came out in his pants this morning and now he is obviously holding it in :-(

He is supposed to be going back to nursery tomorrow. What should I do?? I want to send him in pants because he has done so well with his wees and it would seem like a massive step back to put him back in pull ups or a nappy.

But I am not sure if it's fair to ask the nursery staff deal with up to 2 really messy horrid poo accidents?? (My sons poos are usually quite loose - he rarely ever does a solid "log" which makes this all the more gross!).

Wwyd about nursery tomorrow?and about the need to poo today? Shall I put him in a pull up after lunch and see if a poo comes out??

Honestly? I would speak to them and warn them, and check Thor policy, but I would send him in pants. If he's doing all his wees in the toilet, he is doing brilliantly, and going back into nappies/pull ups is likely to confuse him. Nursery are well used to dealing with accidents, especially in that age group. My DS trained over a weekend in the same way, at 2 years 8 months, but 5 months on and he still has the occasional accident when he's distracted. Nursery just deal with it, the same as we do if it happens at home. Send lots of spare clothes though! And good luck - it really sound like he's ready, so I wouldn't go back.

As for today, we never had poo withholding, but can you try just leaving him naked from the waist down? And put him on the potty every 30 mins or so? Maybe easier if washable floors! Once my DS got it in the potty once, he was very quick to figure it out.

I think I'd send him in a pull up and ask nursery for advice and for what they can do about it.

I'd look at why his poos are so runny too. Is he having too much fibre?

Talk to nursery about it and ask what their policy is.

My DC's nursery has been very proactive with potty training, encouraging DC to use the potty / toilet, encouraging us to send DC in with spare pants and trousers once we started potty training (they recommended not going back to nappies / pull ups to avoid confusion), and very relaxed and matter of fact about toileting accidents.

So, see what they say. Our nursery would be fine with pants and deal with accidents. Yours may be too.

Remember nursery will be trickier for potty training as there will be more distractions and he wont be reminded to go all the time.
