Waiting for the clean one!

DD (8 weeks) seems to have decided that poos are best done in a clean nappy. Either we have a tiny poo or a heavy wet nappy - cue fussing. Having been caught with floods a few times we always wait a minute or two from first signs and open and close the nappy a few times once on the mat.

However long I wait she does a proper poo before I've finished with poppers!

Would I be crazy to hold her over the loo?

Nappy waste is distressing me enough on environmental grounds without 2 nappies per change.

Still trying to sell DH on reuseables - hes convinced miss fussy will hate them... might try a hire kit...

Any other suggestions very welcome!

Would I be crazy to acquire a potty/training loo seat?

For the sake of the planet I have to do something different - already up to nappy 4 thanks to this habit!

try cloth, but that still has env. costs. This won't last forever.

Right. Now determined to go down the cloth route and get a potty as it's abundantly clear she hates pooing in a wet nappy. This morning we had serious grump from nowhere - changed nappy. While on mat (doing poppers), squirming, noisy fart, small poo but very wet nappy so changed that one, redoing poppers and she finishes the job. So 4th nappy in 5 minutes.

On the plus side pooing in the fresh nappy is better than the floods of the early days. Also minimal nappy rash.

Her signs are not subtle - sudden yell from nowhere rather than the hunger grump which builds gradually from awakeness. Starting to think potty type options are necessary to keep her happy. Just will be hard work!

Could it be that when she has her legs raised in the air (for changing nappy) it helps her finish her poo? I know when my DS was constipated it used to help to lie him on his back and raise his legs?

randomsabreuse · 05/10/2015 11:02

Don't think she's constipated. EBF and 8 weeks and does 3 or more substantial (fill nappy) poos per day! They are pretty noisy though - often audible while hand washing plus extractor fan and also washing machine.

Has always (since birth) fussed about wet nappies before blue line as well. Have been reading about elimination communication but not planning to go nappy free completely, just try to reduce the number from an average of 10 / day - she usually sleeps more than 6 hours a night!

Yeh was about to say Elimination Communication www.nappyfreebaby.co.uk/what-is-elimination-communication/ definitely not crazy to hold her on the potty

Loads of info on cloth nappies on youtube, start with the Nappy Lady who explains stuff in a non-patronising fashion
