Ds 7 weeks old sucks hand but won't take dummy

My LO is 7weeks & has got in a habit past 2weeks of sucking his hand. Because of this I gave home a dummy (because get over that habit later) but he won't take it... Any other way of getting rid of this sucking hand business?

One of mine never took a dummy.
All babies find their hands at some point and explore with their mouths. It will stop when he realises that that is his hand and moves onto his foot the next thing. It is possible that he may have teeth on the move too so something to suck/chew may help that.

I'm pretty sure its a developmental stage - basically a sensory thing of finding their own fingers/hands. They mostly whack themselves in the face as a newborn so it's the next stage of control as far as I recall.

I don't think you need to be worried that its going to immediately result in a child that sucks their thumb into adulthood.

Both of mine did this and it had stopped by the time they were about 12 weeks old. If its causing eczema you could try scratch mittens.

I don't see the problem! Hands are always available, never get dropped or lost...I wouldn't be forcing a dummy.

What's wrong with hand sucking? My toddler was a hand sucker as a baby but doesn't do it at almost 2, she probably stopped around 9months. And my 5montj old has been doing it too.

Gloves or mittens.
Hand sucking can get a bit extreme, so best nip it in the bud.

Try some more skin time.

They all do it, don't worry. It's just exploring. I'd be glad he doesn't want a dummy if he doesn't need one, you won't have to prise it off him three years later when he's reliant on it. (Not dummy-bashing, just saying its a bonus!)
