8 week old not taking bottle after trying to introuce formula

My 8 week old was taking expressed milk from either myself, my mum or my husband from 3 weeks old. She would be initially reluctant but would take it. However since we tried to introduce one bottle of formula (aptimil) a day, she has refused the bottle completely including expressed milk. For three evenings after her bath, my husband and I both tried to give her formula in which we ended up with a v upset baby. I then took someone's advice and mixed it with my expressed milk (less than half an oz of formula to 3oz expressed milk). I tried getting a different bottle (was using avent natural and then tried tommee tippee) which hasn't made a difference. Today we tried a bottle feed in the afternoon instead (expressed milk) which ended up with our baby screaming in my husbands face for a while- me taking over and eventually her taking the bottle. Any advice? I am really panicking as the fact she will only feed from me means that I am v much completely tied for the next 6 months (I only want a few hours here and there ever so occasionally!).

I feel your pain, my 10 week old took a bottle from 3 weeks and has refused for the past 2 weeks. Just won't have it at all. I had exactly the same with my older DD and it took 2 months to get her to take the bottle again. The thought makes me want to cry.

I'm in the same boat, no advice unfortunately.

You could try different bottles?

I'm currently on Amazon buying every bottle type known to man Wink. We eventually had success with Dr Browns with DD1 but DD2 spat them out in disgust.

I have heard Dr Browns or the Medela Calma are very good! I know exactly what you mean about wanting to cry. I just think our baby is smarter than is already and doesn't want to be tricked with any more formula! Going to try the bottle again today with my husband sat next to me and switch who feeds her halfway through...

Try a different formula perhaps? We found aptimil had a pretty strong scent which I couldn't bear. Get some cartons of what is available at your local supermarket and try them. I can also recommend MAM anti colic bottles we went on to these when I gave up expressing which I was giving in a simple medela bottle and slow teat. Also check the flow from the bottle isn't too fast or slow as maybe baby is getting drowned by the flow or frustrated that it's not quick enough.

What I would say is I have friends who bubba's would never take a bottle and ones who has to persevere for a long long time to get them to take one. keep trying you'll get there.

Aptimil does stink!

Have you considered finger feeding? There are several finger feeders that babies sometimes find more appealing than bottles. The warmth and texture of the finger skin makes them happier than the cold silicone or rubber of the bottle.

Hi, we didn't have the exact thing but my son was reluctant to take a bottle even of expressed milk. I read somewhere that someone else should do it so they can't smell you/the milk (we referred to our son as a milk shark - he always knew where I was!). He cried for a while but eventually took it - to start with just a little bit then I took over but each time took more until he was ok with it. That worked for us anyway. Good luck! We used Cow and Gate I think and that worked really well for us - he hated Aptimil.
