Dummy question

ANiceSliceOfCake · 13/09/2015 20:04

After a week of baby not settling stall after night feeds I've decided to try a dummy tonight after the feeds.

He's 4 weeks and well established at breastfeeding.

My question is will he still wake and realise he's hungry do you think?

Yes, my ds's dummy has never ever masked his hunger!

Hope you get a better night's sleep.

I give my DS a dummy to soothe him to sleep - he always spits it out once hes properly nodded off and always wakes up for his middle of the night feed!

Yup. I remember being very worried about this after a paediatritian recommended a dummy. After two nights I learned not to worry. It did made a whole world of difference to her sleep and reflux though

Should do! Babies are pretty smart. I'd be surprised if he keeps it in the whole time he's asleep; you may find he wakes if it's fallen out and he wants it back.

If it's any consolation my DD was super unsettled around 3/4 weeks, used to scream and scream. We started giving her a dummy occasionally (saved my sanity!). She calmed down a lot since then and we still only had to give her the dummy from time to time. She's now 16 weeks and pretty much never has it now.

Yes. There's no way a hungry baby would just suck on a dummy instead of feeding! You'll probably find that the dummy falls/gets spat out soon after the baby is asleep anyway.

I should also say that I know this from bitter experience trying to fob dd off with a dummy when we were 10 minutes away from home on the bus!! Everyone on that bus knew she was hungry and a dummy would not do!

Well last night we had the most settled night so far! He only had the dummy for a few hours then didn't want it anymore, so maybe that was enough to settle him!

Let's see what tonight brings.
